This piece will be about amazing progress companies are making to help fight climate change. I believe that even if it advertises companies, surely if they are saving the planet it shouldn't matter? If it means more people buy their products, I believe that's good.

Reusable Period pants, one thing I've noticed massively is that people find themselves uncomfortable when talking about periods, but they're a normal badly function even if they can be a bad experience for some.

Periods can be very expensive when you calculate it, so here I've taken an assumption for the costs of me buying the number of pads I approximately would need for my periods, I chose the five supermarkets in the UK I think of first and calculated this. Please note these calculations are taken from November 2021 prices, and as you may know prices change.

So the first assumption to make is that I bleed for around 5-6 days, so that's equivalent to (including the assumption of my flow) : Always Maxi Night towels, min *6, Always ultra w/ wings, min 5/6 a day, 6 towels per day * for 6 days, min *36.

Ps, ignore size, I have no idea what the relevance is and have never thought about them other than normal vs long.

Aldi

Always Ultra Normal Sanitary Towels Wings - Size 1 - 26 Pack - £2.38

But that's not 36, so I'd need 2.

= £4:76

Lunex San Ultra Towels - Night 10 Pack - £0.49

For 1 month- = £5.25

For 1 year- = £63.00

Assuming I started my period at the age NHS suggests as the average, 12. Then assuming I end my period and go through menopause at 45, (the general age for menopause is 45-55.)

45-12= 33 years of periods, 396 months of periods. Here I am also assuming no pregnancy occurs within the 33 years, and that periods are constantly regular (1 per month.)

So assuming £5.25 is 1 month, then * that by 396 months we calculate that a period will cost  =£2,079

Tesco

Always Ultra Size 2 Sanitary Towels With Wings 26 Pack -=£3.00

That's also not 36, so I'd need 2 packs.

=£6.00

Always Maxi Size 3 Night Sanitary Towels 9 Pack -=£2.05

For 1 month-= £8.05

For 1 year-= £96.60

For 33 years of periods-= £3,187.80

Sainsburys

Always Ultra Long (Size 2) Sanitary Towels Wings x26 -=£3.00

That's not 36 so 2 packs.

=£6.00

Always Maxi Profresh Night Sanitary Towels Without Wings x9-=£2.10

For 1 month -=£8.10

For 1 year-= £97.20

For 33 years of periods-= £3,207.60

Waitrose

Always ultra normal plus with wings X 26 -=£2.99

That's not 36 so 2 packs.

-=£5.98

Always Maxi Night X 9 -=£2.10

For 1 month-=£8.08

For 1 year-=£96.96

For 33 years of periods-=£3,199.68

As you can see, I made a lot of assumptions, and there are mistakes that include different types of sanitary equipment choices. So feel free to go on each supermarket's website and have a quick look to see if they all have the same stuff and calculate for yourself.

A few things to note are that I didn't include any pant liner products and I took an estimated guess at how many sanitary towels I'd need a day. None of these numbers include the other aspects of periods: time off work and school, physical stress, physical sickness to do with periods, pregnancy, skipped or irregular periods.

For comparison, I will soon update this with a section on reusable sanitary equipment.
