~~~###~~~
Laughing playing all year round,All these feelings all around.
Without hope and without fear,
We all can drop a single tear.
The sky drops and hope has fled,
We all watch as these undead-
Come to earth to kill us now.
Save us from this terrifying prowl.
~My mind went blank. Skeletons, some with flesh, some with armor, fell to the ground. Hell hounds, demons, and just filthy creatures poured from the sky, as if from a drain, to reign terror over our land. I shook my head. An illusion I thought. Nothing but a mear illusion. I pinched myself until I felt a little blood than I looked back up. Not an illusion. They were coming down in groups, afraid to be alone, and attacking the innocent people here. I tsked and flew over the Academy, landing beside Yuki on the other side. It seemed like they had to walk quite a way from where I let them free to where they would reunite with others, but they did. She shivered and looked sideways at me She seemed a little scared, but I mean, who wouldn't? I got big ass wings on my back, glowing, and she was just a human. Something beneath my kind.
"Are you alright? How's everyone?" She nodded, almost as if that answered my questions. It did in a way, but not exactly how I wanted it to. She shivered, and that's when I noticed tears on her face.
"We haven't found Zero yet." I held back a small gasp and narrowed my eyes at her.
"What do you mean?"
"Zero had signed out awhile ago, hours actually, and we haven't found him in the school, but..." She pointed towards the town nearby where hell itself was being brought down upon them. She meant Zero had left to go to town, and since he hadn't come back yet,....he was still in town, in the middle of chaos. I bit my lip.
"Did you call police and firemen?" Yuki nodded. We were a good distance away from the fire, and help should be on the way soon.
"I'll go help over there." I motioned my head towards the town and she nodded, sniffling and hugging herself. I took a running start, picking up the pace than pushing off the ground. It certainly surprised me that almost instantly after I was comfortable with my position that something struct me n my back, sending me back down. I crash landed, skidding on the ground until I could see the towns gates to go through. I would find Zero, bring him back, and help this place. I stood, shaking off the dirt that collected on me. What had hit me before fell right in front of me, and I was surprised how...ugly it looked. Nial was really going all out.
The Wendigo (A/N: Picture on the side is a Wendigo) stood about a meter taller than me, with several arms and a hideous face, I couldn't help but scream. It twitched and roared, it's saliva flying everywhere, teeth as sharp as could be. W-what the hell...?! I had never seen this before, but Nial had explained what it was. And he forbidden that I would ever see one. Now I knew why. This cannibalistic creature wasn't a pretty sight, and that was clear. I shivered in disgust when he brought his fist up, ready to pound it down straight on me. I rolled to the side which hurt my wings, but thankfully the Wendigo missed me all together. I was scared no doubt, but I had to keep my mind focus.
Running up to a blind spot that this monster had given me the chance to sight, I shoved my glowing hands against his back, causing him to fly backwards, but I wasn't prepared for what happened next. The Wendigo had started to ooze blood. From every side it had. I wanted to throw up. It was disgusting, I didn't even want to look, but my eyes stayed glued like a deer in headlights. It shriveled and twisted around a little before exploding in a cloud of gray dust, almost like ashes, all over the ground but none touching me. I simply turned around, and after what felt like hours, I walked towards the town, slowly speeding up into a jog, run, than dash. I had to stop this madness, otherwise everyone will be dead.
Walking through the gates, I had some fights similar to the one I just had, except some were Werewolves, Vampires, the usually unusual. I didn't have any injuries; i ended them the same way I did the Wendigo. But I did find many bodies splayed around the streets, in homes, stores, and alleyways. I shivered at each one. It was brutal, the way these beasts killed them. By now my whole body was a radiant purple, ready to rid of anything in my path. The dark feeling was getting hard to fight. Damn, this was just the same way mother had told me about father's home village. I thought it was just a fairy tale, an exaggerated story she had made up for it to sound cooler. Except it hadn't. It had some truth to it, now I realised. Was all this chaos part of the family or something? Horror and pain that runs through our blood? I tried to remember the story, along the way of fight these things to find my beloved Zero.
~*Flashback*~
It had been story time in the Hughes family, her mother coming upstairs without a book to tell her own tale she had shared with her father.
"The village was grand, a great place in a wide open field. Me and your father were married, and you were right here with us all along." She patted her belly. The place was almost like it was a castle grounds. It was beautiful, truly a place fit for the king to live in. We worked there like we did in the old days. But we have no king anyway." We both giggled. "It was a gorgeous day, nothing was wrong. Men were collecting wheat in the fields, working together as usual, as the women worked at home making dinner and helping their children, when suddenly..." She paused, a sad frown on her face, making me wonder what was wrong. I moved closer. "The men in the field, each one ran to their homes screaming and shouting, afraid for themselves and their family. They were shouting nonsense. I remember that your father had came through the door, and by the look on his face, oh heavens...you could tell something terrible was happening. 'Come outside, quick!' he had yelled to me, so I dropped everything I was doing.
"I went outside as he had asked, and I held his hand as he pointed to the sky. It was a big black cloud, covering the sun. that had come over the village. It had lightning streaks going through it constantly, and all of the sudden...boom." She motion with her hand to show as if rain drops were falling. "Down, down they came, right onto the streets, murdering people. We hid with the neighbors in their house, but it was no use. They had found us. The house came down, something had ruined the foundation, and it just collapsed on us. Your father had guarded me than and.." She started to cry. "W-well...I had gotten out of there, and I came back here." She took in a long shaky breath.
"Mommy, what happened to dad? You said he was on a long trip." I waited, but I wasn't very patient when mother didn't answer. I tugged on her beige sweater. "Mommy, what happened to daddy?" She wiped her eyes with her hand and smiled sadly.
"When daddy was protecting mother, he had been covered with rubble. When a crew came to help us and remove the rubble, they did so and they found mommy. But your father had been...impaled." She took in another breath and let it out slowly. Of course, I had no clue what that meant. My mother had left the room sobbing, her eyes red and nose stuffy. I was confused and I hadn't thought that story true. But as a kid, I had no one to tell. So, I did what I usually did.
"...it's ok to come out now..." I whispered softly, watching as the boy stepped out from behind my dresser. "Sorry to hide you in such a small place Nial..."
~*flashback end*~
I slipped on the blood dripping from a carcase of a human and turned around into an ally, throwing up. My stomach was to weak for this. I had to find Zero soon, and fast, otherwise I wouldn't be all to happy to find him dead.
Maybe he would end up like father. Protecting someone, dying because he was impaled...I hadn't know what impaled was, but I do now. It grossed me out and made me feel bad for asking mom awhile ago. No wonder she was pissed with me sometimes, me asking hurtful questions. I shook my whole body and wiped my mouth, standing up straight again and looking ahead to my enemies.
This was going to be a long day, that's for sure.
