The sun filtered through the leaves of the giant oak tree you leant against in dappled shadows that danced across the ground in front of you with every gentle breeze that swayed the heavy branches.

You watched in fascination, the book that you'd been attempting to read sitting open on your lap, mostly forgotten.

When a particularly strong breeze sent the little shadows into a frenzy you couldn't help the tiny smile that curled your lips.

"What are you smiling about?" A much larger shadow joined the ones on the ground and you tilted your head back to squint at the newcomer.

"San!" Your smile grew and you leapt up, throwing yourself into the arms of your best friend. He let out a little giggle that sent your heart on a stuttering race that it had no hope of winning, his arms closing around you tightly.

"I missed you!" He hummed, squeezing your small body tighter to his, for a brief moment cutting off your ability to breath, think or talk.

You struggled out of his grip, putting your hands on his arms and once again tilting your head up to look at him, this time letting your gaze trace over every familiar feature.

"Your hair is-"

"Dyed, I know. It's cool right?" He grinned, twin dimples popping out by the corners of his mouth, making you swallow heavily.

"I was going to say long, but yes, the brown and blue is very.. you." His eyes twinkled like a thousand stars were captured in their brown depths and you found yourself unable to look away.

"Do you like it?" He asked seriously after a few moments, his fingers reaching up to touch the long ends self consciously.

You could have hit him right there, for having the audacity to be so blind to his outrageously good looks.

"Of course I do, you idiot." You swatted his hands from his hand, shaking your head at him incredulously. "You could have come home with no hair and dressed in a damn potato sack and I'd still think you were the most handsome guy in my life."

Like you'd expected, your words brought another smile to his lips and he left his hands be swatted back to his side for a moment before he was lifting them again, this time to touch your hair.

The feeling of his fingertips anywhere near your face, let alone brushing through the long strands of your hair, sent shivers down your spine that you tried to ignore.

Part of you had always harboured feelings for San, but you'd accepted them a long time ago in an effort to move on.

So far, it had been pretty easy considering your main form of interaction with him for the last six months had been mainly online while he'd been oversea's because of his father's job.

But then, he'd never touched your hair before so you had no idea how to react now without giving away just how nervous his presence made you.

His eyes were lingering on your face, almost as if he were searching for something while his fingers brushed lazily through the dark locks below him.

"Your hair grew too." He said softly, far too intimately for you to continue breathing properly.

"Y-yeah it's been six months so of course it has." You managed to force out, wondering whether now was a good time to jerk out of his reach. Every nerve in your body felt stretched taut, electrified.

"I know." He hummed, hand stilling on the side of your neck, fingertips resting just below your jaw.

There was no doubt that he must know the effect he was having on you with his fingers that close to one of your pulsepoints. Your heart was beating so fast you were scared it would leap out of your chest.
