"Follow my finger please." Dr Choi instructed.
Yoongi did so.
"Hey, I saw you and that other ghost talking, I know you can see me!"
An exasperated sigh escaped his lips, as Yoongi tried in vain to suppress his anger.
Those spirits were getting on his nerves.
And it was the last thing he needed after just ending an emotional argument with his partner.
Yet he couldn't blame them. Like how he couldn't blame Jin for being angry at him.
He would be lucky if Jin ever looks at him again.
"Mr Min, everything alright?" Dr Choi
inquired.Forcing a smile, he replied, " yes, everything is peachy."
Slightly bemused, the doctor went back to checking Yoongi's reflexes.
"So doctor, what's the diagnosis?" Yoongi asked.
"You drove yourself and, I'm assuming another victim of a shooting, to the E.R. with two bullet wounds going through your right shoulder blade." He said.
The detective raised and eyebrow. "Drove?"
Hoseok.
"Yes, it is quite a mystery how you drove yourself to the hospital even though you were unconscious due to a notably large amount of blood loss."
"Guess I have my lucky stars to thank." Yoongi complimented half-heatedly.
Doctor Choi smiled, before leaving to consult other experts on Yoongi's course of treatment. The spirits left with no luck at getting his attention.
Soon, the silence of the room enveloped Yoongi. He was exhausted, after the day he had.
Before he could even catch a break, the door opened as a sweet voice called out.
"Yoongi! I bought some chips, Sprite, chocolate, because they wouldn't sell me alcohol without an ID. Thought they might boost your mood, with everything that happened." Hoseok grinned from ear to ear.
The bag of snacks fell with a crunch as Hoseok rushed to his side. "What's wrong? What happened with Jin hyung?"
A dam of emotions came crashing down on Yoongi, taking him under.
"Everything that could possibly go wrong did. I messed up, I broke his heart the second time and lost my only friend. I endangered someone's life and she's gonna be crushed when she learns her father is dead, all because of me."
He could feel the rush of tears flow down his cheeks but he continued.
"If I had just waited and not let my emotions get the better of me, both of them would've been safe. Jin wouldn't have to suffer for these two days and we would be still friends. If, if-"
"You still have me." Hoseok reminded.
Yoongi looked up to face him, cheeks flushed, teary-eyed and shot running down his nose.
"There are a million ways that day could have played out. Yes, the father unfortunately didn't make it, but you did save the daughter's and maybe other lives from being tortured and killed."
Yoongi felt a cool sensation as Hoseok suddenly grabbed his hands.
"Yoongi." Hoseok began.
His cheeks blushed a deep shade of red.
"It doesn't matter how other people feel about you because-"
He paused, trying to find the right words.
Their eyes met.
"Because to me, you're a hero."
Those words hit hard. It was just what he needed.
"Thank you Hoseok."
Picking up the bag of junk food, Hoseok said, "come on, you must be starving."
"I don't think junk food is in the recommended diet after surgery-"
"Just eat it." Hoseok insisted.
Resting his head on his pillow, he looked out the window, just noticing how much time has passed.
The tangerine spread far and wide across the horizon, illuminating anything in its presence with a gold orange glow. Specks of twilight splattered across the sky, signalling a new night.
The sun had set.
But the promise of a new dawn the next day, felt like a glimmer hope.
Somehow, he'll make it up to Jin.
No matter how long it took, he'll do it.
Just like Hoseok said.
"Would you like some music to go with your Sprite?" Hoseok asked.
"Heh, yes please." Yoongi joked, playing along with him.
Whipping out a recorder, he began to play a merry tune...with his nose, earning some laughs from Yoongi.
"Ow ow." Yoongi winced, clutching his wound, still grinning.
He wondered, how was Jin doing?
🗡🗡🗡
It was all going according to plan.
A man, sat in the corner of the bar, observing his surroundings. Like an outsider looking in.
"I'm sorry, but you have to step away before I arrest you." His target snapped, shoving his badge into another man's face.
Cursing under his breath, the man exited the bar bitterly.
Doesn't like sweet talk. Noted.
He had been watching the same handsome man on the rooftop that day for an hour or two now. Gathering all the information that he needed.
I knew it was fated for us to meet again—
Kim Seok Jin.
