Chapter 2

Minx's POV

I sighed and looked out my window. It was dark outside but I didn't relax. I couldn't. It's been about an hour since father struck me and there was a red mark. I frowned and got out my makeup kit. I hated the stuff but it was great to hide marks.

Kids always talk about how they wished they were rich so they could afford expensive things but... They wouldn't be saying that if they knew what it's like. There's strain on you. People are always watching you, waiting for you to make the slightest mistake. You always have people begging for charity and you don't have any time to yourself.

I wish I was a normal child who went to a normal school. Instead, father hired in private tutors. I didn't have many friends and I had to work alone. The work is so hard but the tutors always expect me to finish it on my own.

I heard a knock and frowned.
"Come in." I finished covering the mark that father gave me before I turned to see who was here. Mother stood there and smiled at me. She sat down on my bed and patted the spot beside her, beckoning me to sit down.

Obeying her wishes, I sat down as gracefully as possible. Mother always tells me that a lady must be proper at all times.

Once I was sat, she started to speak.
"Minx, I need to you to get ready and wear one of your pretty dresses. Then, you need to come to the carriage. You will then be taken to our neighbouring town to meet your intended."

I glared at her but nodded. I knew better than to disobey mother. When angered, she gets really abusive towards people.

Once she left, I got changed reluctantly. I wore a long purple dress with intricate violet swirls. I left my hair to sweep down my back.

Once I was finished, I went downstairs and entered the carriage, sitting opposite to mother. Well, let's get this over and done with...

AN: This is going to be a rare authors note but I need to being something to everyone's attention. Minx is being forced to marry a girl not a boy because in this society, every second generation will marry someone of the same gender. This will be explained in detail later but yeah... Hope you enjoy!
