"Hey there sexy legs," catcalled a man as I walked with my friend. I looked strangely at him and walked faster away. I thought to myself, maybe I shouldn't have worn this mini skirt today. "Hey don't talk to my friend like that!," said my friend Kiesha empowered. "Whatever," scoffed the creepy man on the street as we walked to the coffee shop. "Thanks Kiesha," I said smiling and ashamed. "Anytime girl. And I know what ya thinking. You don't have to cover yourself for a man. Boys need to control themselves. Dress for yourself," she said wisely.
Kiesha was a great friend. She had lots of self confidence and rocked her kinky curly hair. Her being a sophmore definitely helped me as it was my first year far from home in a town completely opposite of what I was used to. My home town was gross, humid, and was a heavily populated city in the south. Here trees surrounded us constantly and seasons were actually a thing. The weather here made me smile and made life worth living unlike the sauna I used to live in.
"I'll have a pumpkin latte. By the way you have really pretty eyes," said Kiesha flirting with the barista as she always did. "Thank you. That will be $7.95," replied the pale, redheaded, drop dead gorgeous barista blushing. Kiesha was really good at flirting, as I was not so much. "I'll have a pumpkin spice frappuccino with almond milk," I said indecisevly. "Okay that will be $6.98. Have a good day you two!," she said smiling. After we got our coffees Kiesha slipped a prewritten paper with her number to the barista.
"So you going to the Halloween party tommorow Aja?," asked Kiesha sipping her coffee nonchalantly. "Umm. I don't know. I'm scared that Jaxon will be there. Also, we have a biology test Monday, but I want to," I said unsure. "You do you girl, but we got all weekend. It's Friday and for Heaven's sake if you can run a half marathon and hike for a week in the wilderness without a shower you can go," she said uplifting me. "Thanks! You're so kind. I'll think about it," I said smiling mildly. Maybe it would be good to get out, but I had this sort of crush on a guy who was going to be there and I could not embaress myself.
"Okay gal. Lets get to studying. Your turn explain osmosis detail by detail," Kiesha said opening up the biology textbook. After hanging out and studying for a while at Lunar cafe, we went back to our dorms. Once I got to my dorm, I felt tired and wanted to go to bed. I turned off the lights and shut my eyes in relaxation until the lights suddenly came on and music was blasting. "Haha! You better not get too drunk tommorow byeee!," spoke my noisy, but manageable roomate. Oh goodness. How am I going to go to bed with her here. Melatonin supplements it is.
I woke up to the inviting sun and the sound of birds chirping. I yawned and stretched as I got out of bed. I put on a sports bra, gym shorts, and tennis and then tied up my medium length, wavy, light brown hair. I lathered my somewhat tan skin with sunscreen and wore sunglasses on top my large, almond, emerald green eyes. 6 miles in the nice beautiful forest, I thought. As I ran though I became a little scared of the enclosed forest as there was only me there listening to random music on spotify. I told myself, it's okay no one is going to hurt you, you know jiu jitsu.
As the night rolled around, several of my new friend texted me asking are you going to go to the party? I finally answered one hour before it started, yes. I didn't really know what to wear, but Kiesha just said something cute and casual. I wore a pair of boyfriend jeans, a crop top, boots, light makeup, and had my hair to the side. Once I got to the party, people were already drinking which was something I was curious and cautious of.
"Hey Aja," said Claire one of my new friends that looked just like a younger version of Drew Barrymore. "Hey!," I said happy to see here. "Hi Aja! You made it," said Jung my other friend who was hot, but no I did not like him. Though he was tall, had dark hair, amazing eyes, a handsome korean accent, funny, intelligent, and sweet. He's my friend okay? Anyway once my friends all arrived we split apart and talked.
"Go talk to him!," said Kiesha pushing me towards Jaxon. "It's just that he's so cool you know," I said biting my lip. "Gosh darnit girl. You gotta put yourself out there. Don't wait for the guy to aways make the first move," she said disappointed. "I know, but it's difficult. Like you have this natural charm and confidence, but I don't," I said looking down. "Who cares if it's difficult to talk to him. You need to at least try. I'm confident, because I have learned that I am worth it and so can you. Now go!, " she said giving me a mini pep talk.
I walked over to Jaxon while we were in the faternity which he did not belong to. He was alone which was unusual since he usually had lots of people talking to him. He was the epitome of a college boyfriend and was really smart. Sometimes I even felt intiminated by him because he played like three instruments and was an incredible runner. "Hi, Jaxon," I said trying to be friendly as he drank soda from a red cup. "Oh hey Aja from my space science class. What's going on?," he said with his cool voice and pearl white teeth. "You know just hanging around here," I said akwardly. "Cool. Well some of us are going to the forest for a bon fire soon if you and your friends would like to join," he said kindly. "Yeah sure!," I said exitedly.
I walked back to my group of friends and Kiesha looked at me and smiled widely. "You finally talked to him outside of class! Yay girl! What did you talk about with that fine man?," Kiesha asked with wonder sparkling in her eyes. "Umm nothing much, but he invited me and y'all to go into the forest for a bon fire with some others," I said glad I actually spoke to him. "Bad idea. You know people get murdered in Cyrstal Cove Forest a lot," Claire said trying to scare me. "Claire's just joking," said Jung rolling his eyes and laughing. "Umm. Look Kiesha and I have been in college longer than you three first years and you know it could be true," said Sefina, a junior seriously. "It's just a joke. Just go if you want to," said Kiesha shaking her head. "
I mean I kind of wanted to go. "It will be fun!," I said scared, but intrigued. "Okay cool me too," said Claire sighing. Finally we made the decision that would oddly make a huge impact in our lives.
