What little makes up the best happiness?
the gentlest thing...
the lightest thing...What sounds bring us there?
The rustle of the wind...
The stream in the distance...
A happiness beyond all understanding.
A serenity greater than we chase. How often do we chase happiness,
wish for something greater than what we have?
How we find ourselves perpetually chasing...
perpetually seeking...
perpetually doing...?How often do we long for the past,
for how great times were back then?
How we compare it to our happiness now,
and long for a return.Whether you carry the weight of the past,
or perpetually chase the future,
happiness seems out of reach,
there are many obstacles in its path.Even in the present,
there may be things that block happiness now.
The emotions you feel...
the thoughts you think...
an uncomfortable feeling...
a perpetual noise...Perhaps your problems cannot be solved.
Perhaps you can fight against them and win,
but the road to victory is winding and long.
The road to true happiness,
is beyond any winning condition,
and can always be experienced now.Do you truly wish,
to be at the mercy of what's around you?
It changes constantly,
It is out of your control,
fight it and it fights back.
Then life becomes serious and hard.Even while so tightly wound,
we experience moments of unexpected joy.
A release of tension,
a subtle aliveness,
a friend tells a joke...
That's it!Isn't it amazing,
how life is colored with splendid beauty,
through the lightest sights and sounds?
How easily it opens up to you,
when you stop to enjoy...?They point to eternal happiness,
which lies in the background,
winning can't hold a candle to it.
It's a happiness real and true. Our senses color the world,
yet the background allows it to be.
When we see the whole of the world,
we are the background,
and so are happiness itself.Who you are,
what you have been or will be,
what you experience now,
are all part of the foreground.
Just step into the background,
then happiness belongs to you.For only the lightest thing in the world,
can overcome the hardest thing in the world,
for even it carries the light inside,
from the happiness behind it all.
