Admiring the architectural design of VD Group building, which she thought could be like 20-storeys high, Myra pushed open the glass vestibule.
She was asked to sit and wait while her appointment was being confirmed. The lobby area was tranquil, calming, nature inspired and yet she was feeling skittish inside. She didn't know how not be nervous when she faced him again, those dreamy eyes would surely mystify her and cause her to lose focus, she was so certain of it.
Most of her thoughts about him had been how he would take her in his arms and kiss her really hard none-stop under the light of a thousand stars, how he would whisper in her ears... "I want to love every part of you forever but even forever isn't enough time." ...after making passionately love to her and she would in turn reply, "darling, hold me in your arms and never let me go."
She couldn't figure out how the hell her thoughts have gone this far and wild for someone she had met once and had had no close contact with, yet it was only one phase of the multitudinous emotions which had assailed her ever since she set eyes on him.
Karen was right, she was dying to meet him again, dying to make him see her as a girl he could feel something for and not as a job seeker and this time she wouldn't let go of any opportunity.
"Yes, you can go up now to the 15th," the lady at the reception shook her out of her reverie.
Getting off the elevator on the 15th floor, she read the sign on her right that said 'VD Investment Bank' and straight ahead was another reception desk.
She asked for directions to Sean Foster's office but this lady came out of nowhere and said, "I'll take it from here Camila, thanks," she said to the receptionist then turned to her, "hi, you must be Myra Sanders...I'm Cori, this way to Sean Foster's office."
There were four offices on the far right along the hallway, on the distant end was a conference room in the middle and then there was another bigger office on the far left which was the only office unoccupied at that moment. She could see the design of each office was different and far cooler than what she was used to in Nantucket. It was a busy floor too she realized...workstations were open, everyone's working, working habits were certainly on display, phones ringing none stop.
They entered one of the offices, Cori gestured her to a seat. "I'll let him know you're here," she walked behind a desk and picked up the phone.
Myra sat down. Through the glass wall from the corner of her eyes she could see someone approaching, a male figure. As she sat there she promised herself not to look directly as she didn't want to be caught staring until he was standing in front of her.
Wow! Here he comes, she dare not coin her smile so lavishly nor flash her glances so unremittingly, she cautioned herself, heart beating fast.
"Myra Sanders, hi, I'm Sean Foster, nice to meet you."
The guy that walked out through the glass door was certainly not the one she was expecting neither was he one of the ones that had interviewed her the month before. He was shorter, blonde hair...his shoulders were broader, he had this sculptured body and looked very good in his gray suit but...he wasn't him.
"Nice to meet you too," she managed a smile. Ugh she moaned deep down. What made her to ever think her charmer could be Sean Foster? How ridiculous! She was right about the voice though, it wasn't his; Sean Foster's voice was deeper with a Southern drawl. They moved to his office, which was partitioned with the one she was in formerly but more spacious.
Myra was gravely disappointed but she didn't want that to deter her from focusing and passing this interview at this point. There was no chance she'd meet her charmer ever again so why not focus? Then again from what she heard, the paycheck and incentives were pretty huge and it wasn't worth screwing up. She'd very much like to be in the system...it indeed looked worth it!
"I'm just going to ask you one question," Sean Foster began.
Just one question? Myra was bemused and silently she started praying she shouldn't be asked what she knew about the company (it was one thing she had overlooked) because then she knew she'd have lost the opportunity of getting this job for good. She wasn't totally ignorant though, she knew there was a VD Oil & Gas, VD Shipping and VD Investment Bank. VD Investment Bank was a start up, hence, the recruitment of new individuals.
"So why do you want this job?"
Myra cleared her throat, this is easy. "Ahhh...I want to grow in an organization where I feel a sense of belonging...my targets for what's inevitably a career build up. I know this company is currently working on expanding its international market and establishing itself as a formidable investment bank, I'd want to be one of those to see it through," she paused.
"Go on, I'm listening," he leaned back in his seat.
"Um...as someone who's been working in financial services and customer relations that offers an array of banking services for years now, I feel I've um...got the ability to push those boundaries and acquiring this job would come in handy in terms of fostering and building long lasting relationships with your new clients."
"Hmm...that's quite impressive Ms. Sanders...or should I call you Myra? We go by first names here."
"Yes please, call me Myra. I'm I hired?"
"You've been hired a while ago, Myra, we just wanted to make sure you're ready to change jobs."
"W-wait...what?!"
Sean smiled. "Um we do know about your current job, I must admit. You actually did great on your first interview, so we looked into you and knew you'd be a great candidate for this position."
"Oh my God," Myra blinked rapidly.
"Congratulations, you're our new Chief Customer Officer (CCO)."
"CCO? I applied for a Marketing Exec.'s job," Myra was confused.
"Yeah, we thought you'd do better as our CCO, don't you think?"
"Yes, yes, I like this one better. Thank you so much."
"So you'll get your two weeks to resign from your current job and start here accordingly. Your employment contract would be forwarded to you immediately."
"I'm grateful for this opportunity, I assure you, you won't be disappointed."
They shook hands."Holy shit! Chief Customer Officer definitely has a nice ring to it," Karen refilled her wine glass. The ladies were having dinner celebrating Myra's new job in a small restaurant.
"Karen, I'm still in awe," Myra sipped her drink. "I mean...I didn't think I'd get the job so easily and a top position too. Oh my gosh!"
"Incredible! Told ya it was your time to shine. You totally deserve this, honey."
Karen was more than happy for her. It was what she'd always wanted, Myra knew that.
"So you'll leave for Nantucket tomorrow?"
"Yeah, I have to go say goodbye."
Karen's new boyfriend joined them as they continued their dinner.
