"His name is Davey Vanderek and he's married!"
Karen put down her purse and sat next to her on the sofa. "Who exactly are you talking about?"
"My charming interviewer of course," Myra put on a slight asymmetric smile.
"W--what? You found him?"
"Yep. I finally found him today and he happens to be my boss," she face palmed, shaking her head.
"No-way!"
Myra nodded, uncovering her face.
"You mean he's the owner of VD Group?"
"Co-owns it actually. His dad, Danny Vanderek is the Founder/President while he's VP/CEO and in charge of VD Investment Bank where I work."
"Oh my, Myra...that's great news, I mean good opportunity to be close to him, to make him aware of how you feel about him."
Myra got up to pour herself a drink, "…didn't you hear what I said? He's married."
"Yeah I heard that. What has that got to do with anything? I've dated married guys before you know. I need that drink too."
"I can't date a married guy," she handed Karen a glass and sipped hers.
"Why not?"
"I don't roll that way Karen, you know that."
"Myra, you've been dying to meet this guy again like forever, you're in love with him for pit's sake, it's time you bend your rules a little...steal him away, make him yours..."
"He's got a kid - a three year old."
"Unbelievable Myra! So what?" Karen rolled her eyes. "For all we know he could be trapped in a loveless marriage, to an unattractive wife whom he was forced to marry probably due to her being pregnant."
"He wouldn't be wearing that ring so proudly if he was, would he?"
"A ring?! Didn't you say he didn't have a ring on last time you saw him?"
"Um…yeah, I didn't see one then," she paused.
"See what I mean? Takes the ring off whenever he likes, that tells you he isn't in love with his wife."
"You know what…I did see a painting of a fat, older woman with a kid hanging on his wall..."
"Really?"
"Uh-huh…a woman that looked to be in her sixties! He couldn't be married to a woman that old, could he?"
"She might not be that old you know. She could...you know...maybe look older than her age."
Myra laughed softly. "And oh there was the way he looked at me all through the meeting, like he's attracted to me or something. He also mentioned he created the CCO position just for me. Do you think maybe, he feels something for me?"
"He didn't forget you after the interview. I think he really likes you Myra," Karen's grin broadened. "Doubt he's had a good night sleep since the day he first set eyes on your pretty face."
They both laughed. And then there was silence.
"He's got these sensuous lips you know. I couldn't take my eyes off them," Myra broke the silence "...I wonder what it would feel like to kiss him," she spoke dreamily.
"Initiate an affair; it's a way to find out. Turn from your good girl ways, go after what you want. If his wife is as ugly as we think she is, then you've won this battle."
"Oh my God, Karen, do you know how happy it would make me; to have someone like him to call my own?"
Karen held her hand, "Myra, you deserve to be happy and I'm going to help whichever way I can." She got up, "I need a hot bath and another drink."
Myra thought over what Karen had said...true she had been in and out of relationships but never with a married man. The thought excited her, it was sort of different...she was in love with this guy...yes he had no idea but he would soon. To win him over, she was going to support him in accomplishing his goal of building the best investment bank in the city and consistently demonstrate an interest in the success of the organization. She was going to work her ass off to land him big clients; that would ginger him to like her further and spark off an affair with her.
For two days in a row she tried to see him but Claire wouldn't let her. No matter the excuse she came up with, she was told she couldn't go in because she didn't have an appointment. She then asked for an appointment to see him that afternoon and Claire remarked his schedule was full. The woman was incorrigible!
Annoyed, she marched into Sean's office. "Sean, I need to see Davey but Claire won't let me. Can you talk to her?"
"Sorry Myra, I cannot help you. Once Claire says 'NO', it can't be overturned."
"Really?" She frowned.
"Why do you need to see him? I'm sure I could help you pass on the message."
"It's okay. It's not really that important. Thanks anyways."
"You’re sure?"
"Sure."
"Seriously, you look fantastic in that dress."
Did he just change the subject? "Um, thanks. I'd be on my way now."
"Care to have dinner with me tonight."
"Hmm…no! Sorry Sean."
She quickly left.
