Type: FictionIt was one of the many days in August that came under the Summer Holidays.
It was the 12th now, and my family and I were supposed to be on vacation by now - but due to recent unfortunate circumstances we haven't been.
We were just about to go for an amazing holiday to see the Northern Lights, also known as Aurora, in snowy Alaska; when my father had got news while he was on his way home from work at night.
A grandparent of mine had passed away, and he had to pass on the unfortunate grim news onto everyone - and that included me and everyone within my family.
So our trip was cancelled and delayed to the other end of the year in wintery February instead.
It wasn't anyone's fault that my grandparent had passed away. It was just bad luck, and now we had to commemorate their passing instead of going on a holiday.
Everyone in my family went from wearing bright neon colours of every shade of the summer rainbow to dull dark greys and darkened blacks.
No adult would smile anymore, and even some of my little cousins had suddenly grown quiet.
Just to add to it to make things worse, the weather began to grow gloomy and cloudy - but there wasn't any rain luckily since it was August.
What pathetic fallacy, I thought to myself one day as I realised this.
Ironic.
It was. Everyone was just so sad and it was going to bring my whole holiday crumbling down like an arctic avalanche-catastrophe.
I couldn't complain though, it was noone's fault, and it would be highly disrespectful if I did.
One day, my parents noticed how saddened they'd made me feel and what affect they'd had on me - so to brighten things up just a little - they decided to take me to go and see Grandpa.
Great.
And yes, I'm being highly sarcastic.
Grandpa was the one who'd lost Grandma to Cancer. - If we'd go there to visit him it would only make matters more sensitive and worse as they would just see each other and be instantly be reminded of their loss!
Well, it was better than staying at home constantly having to listen to drizzling rain hammering every window in your house.
So, we left for Grandpa's house, which, unlike ours, was located in a rural village - what's worse was that his house was literally in the middle of nowhere. - Apparently, according to my grandpa and his made-up stories, some teenager had even written a sign that read "Welcome to the Middle of Nowhere" - he stared wheezing when he'd told me that joke.
It wasn't even funny. The worst joke I'd ever heard in my sixteen years of life., but I loved it when he smiled and laughed and showed signs of joy in his old age. It made me realise that old people could be really fun to be around, can emit positive vibes like powerful gamma rays and can be crazy too.
We travelled there in Dad's huge black truck since its wheels were made for rocky areas and outdoor places.
It began to thunder - but there was no rain and no lightening. Just a dull rainbow in the distance - which was the weirdest kind of weather I'd ever encountered in my life.
I just ignored it and sat at the back of the truck, letting all the rocky bumps stab their way through the wheels of the car.
Soon, we arrived.
