Whose alarm is that? Kadence thought, rolling over in a bed that didn't feel like hers. Even half-asleep, she knew her sheets, her mattress, the exact way her pillow dipped under her head this wasn't it. And if the foreign bed didn't give it away, the warm body next to her definitely did.

She squeezed her eyes shut and tried to piece the night together. Nothing. After a few long minutes, memories started to hit in flashes, and suddenly she was wide awake. Heart thumping, she leapt out of bed, scooping up her clothes and shoes scattered across the spacious room.

Kadence moved like a pro, fast and quiet. She knew the guy in the bed would be up any second once that alarm kept buzzing. She didn't have time for the awkward "It's not you, it's me" speech or fake promises she didn't plan on keeping. Sneaking out was the best move, her only move.

"Where the hell is my purse?" she whispered, scanning the room. A sudden shuffle from the bed made her freeze, breath caught in her throat. After a tense moment, he settled back into sleep. Thank God.

Her purse was under his bed. She grabbed it, fished out her phone, and slipped out just as the alarm blared again.

In the elevator, she hit the Lyft app and laughed under her breath. Close call. But this was nothing new. Kadence lived for fun, and sometimes fun meant one-night stands always forgotten by morning.

Kadence swiftly arrived at her one-bedroom apartment in Downtown Los Angeles, relieved by the quick journey. She needed this time, as she had to meet her best friend Deja at the dance studio within the hour, and she was far from prepared.

"Hi, mama's baby," Kadence called as she walked into her apartment, greeted by her sphynx cat, Lucy.

Lucy, much like Kadence herself, was full of energy, extroverted, and intelligent. She was everything Kadence wanted in a pet, her perfect companion. Despite Kadence's social nature, Deja and Lucy were her only true confidantes, aside from her brothers and sometimes her sisters.

After feeding Lucy and cleaning her litter box, Kadence headed to the bathroom for her morning routine. She braced herself for another hectic day, but she never complained; she knew all her hard work would pay off one day.

"Okay, Lu, mommy's leaving. Be good, and I'll be home later," she said as Lucy batted at a toy in her cat hotel. Kadence smiled, grabbed an apple, and headed out the door.

"Finally," Deja teased, rolling her eyes as Kadence strolled into the studio, the familiar energy buzzing in the air.

"Sorry, I got a late start," Kadence said, grinning as she tossed her apple core into the trash.

Deja smirked, pulling her hoodie over her head to reveal a black leotard that hugged her curves, her signature look. "So, I'm guessing you spent the night with that guy from last night?"

Kadence just shrugged, her nonchalance saying more than words ever could.

Deja shook her head, a smile tugging at her lips. "Classic Kadence."
