The moment Brooke pulled into the school parking lot, James practically hopped out of the car. The truck behind the convertible honked at him, which just seemed stupid to Brooke. How is honking going to make any difference?

"Bye James," she called after him. "See you fourth period!" Her voice got lower as he got farther. In the distance she could see him barely wave his hand as if to say, bye! I'm being really fucking weird today and I'm not gonna tell you why! Have fun worrying!

Ok, so he probably didn't know how much he worried his best friend on a daily basis, but that wasn't her fault; she didn't want to worry him by knowing that he's worrying her.

Brooke swung on her backpack, shut the car door, and made her way towards the school. A few girls who she knew from assorted classes waved to her, and she politely lifted a hand in greeting. She didn't have too many friends, most likely because it had always been her and James. She knew that probably wasn't good for her in the long run, but oh well. She had some friends, just not very close ones.

She made her way through her first three classes and met up with James for brunch. They mainly say in silence, as the brunette didn't really want to talk. Eventually, Brooke decided to speak up.

"Did I do something wrong? Is that why you're ignoring me? Just tell me what I did and I-" The girl was cut off by her friend's finger on her lips.

"I'm observing." He whispered. "And to answer your question, you didn't do anything wrong. I'm just trying to see something."

"Ok James, you're being really weird today. What the hell are you 'observing'?" she made air quoted around the word observing. "Just tell me about whatever's going on. You can tell me anything."

The boy eventually gave in. "Ok, we'll it's kind of a long story. See-" this time it was James that got cut off. The shrill ring of the school bell signaled the end of the pair's conversation.

"I swear to god, James, tell me what you were going to say!"

"Sorry got to get to class." He rushed away from his friend, thankful he didn't have to explain everything at once.

Brooke made her way to her third period somewhat pissed. She wasn't really sure at what though. She slammed into her seat and put her head in her hands.

When she felt a tap on her left shoulder, she kinda yelled, "What do you want?" She immediately realized her tone and calmed herself down.

"Jesus, what the hell happened to you?" The blue-eyed girl next to her joked. She was one of Brooke's kind of maybe somewhat friends. They talked a lot in class (they always got into trouble for it), but never hung out or talked outside of school.

"Sorry about that Alyssa." The blonde apologized. "I'm just kind of high strung right now."

"Yeah, no kidding." The girl replied.
