Sam shoved me harder against the wall, and I growled at him.

"Shut the fuck up Colby, you aren't going to do anything but try to prove how much of a bad ass you think you are. I know you though. I know the real you. The one that you keep trying to hide, to bury again."

I glared at him, wanting to rip his arm off of me, but he was stronger. I was actually surprised by that. I had been sucking down blood bags for a while now, while Sam had been feeding fresh from Kat at least every other day.

He had his One. He had everything he needed, and I felt actual hate towards him for that.

"What?" He asked, staring into my eyes. "You think I don't know what you're doing? You think that I don't know that you wish you were the one fucked up in that bed up there? Or that you resent me, every time you look at me with Katrina? I know it all Brother."

The pity in his eyes was enough to make me clench my fists. "You don't know anything!" I spat out, even though everything he said hit home. "I'm doing everything that I can to help Chloe! To make sure that nothing happens to the other girls! To make sure that our clan stays together after Elias betrayed us all. I'm working night and day to try and fix what I fucked up! Don't you get that?! What I fucked up BROTHER!" My voice broke as I screamed at him. "I'm doing ev-everything I can to hold onto my sanity. If that means that I have to go back to the emotionless bastard that I was before her...then so be it."

Sam dropped his arm from my neck, and just stood in front of me for a minute. I let my head hang, refusing to meet his gaze. I couldn't stand to see the pity in his eyes again.

I didn't actually want to fight Sam, or even argue with him. I just wanted everyone to leave me alone.

I felt his arms come around my neck, pulling me to him in a tight hug.

"You didn't fuck anything up Colby. Believe that. You're the only reason she's still alive at all. Hold onto that."

I gripped him tightly around the waist, holding on for dear life. That's what it felt like right then. Like he was my life preserver keeping me from floating out to sea.

After a moment, I pulled back and dropped my arms.

"Thanks." I said, still not looking at him.

"Always Brother. Now let's go pick up the trash, yeah?"

I finally looked up and met his gaze. He was smiling, his eyebrows raised questioningly. I grinned back a little.

"Damn right." I replied.

We met Corey, Jake, and Elton at the front door.

"You guys ready?" I asked.

They looked between Sam and I for a second, then nodded.

"Yeah...y'all okay?" Elton asked.

I glanced at Sam then back to Elton.

"We're good. I'm good. Everybody's good. Can we go?"

Yep, the asshole was still around. Just because Sam made me break for a minute didn't mean it was going to change. I couldn't be any other way without her.

She made me better. If I concentrated on being an asshole, then I wasn't concentrating on life without her.

"He's baa-aack." Corey replied under his breath in a sing song voice.

I shot him a death glare and he held both hands up. I let out a disgusted breath and yanked the door open, stalking outside. The guys followed me until we hit the end of the driveway.

"We're picking them up at the borderline, near Chesterfield Square. It's just supposed to be us, but we all know that Aza will have his clan waiting in the shadows. So will we." I motioned with my fingers up in the air, and vamps from all corners popped up around us. "The clan will not move in with us but far behind. Close enough to be there if shit goes down, far away enough to not be felt. Got it?"

Everyone nodded their agreement. I closed my eyes for a second, just a second, thinking about Chloe. I imagined her laugh, the way her nose would crinkle just a little, and the way she would bite her bottom lip, trying to hold it in before it burst out of her.

The way her hair would always have a shade of red to it when the light hit it just right, and those eyes. Those damn eyes that got me every time I looked at her. I swear she was the who had compulsion.

They would pay for taking that away from me.

I gathered my anger up again, and opened my eyes.

"Let's go."

The original five took off together as the others spread out far behind us. We flew through our neighborhood, zooming through the traffic in downtown LA, before we ended up at a run down, abandoned convenience store. It smelled like rotting garbage and stale blood.

The building looked like your typical store, glass windows all in the front. Only most of them were busted out and boarded up. The doors were boarded also, but you could see where the wood had been forcibly pulled apart so that the homeless, or Rogue vamps could stay inside.

"Aza." I called to him in an even tone.

"Come inside Colby. Your prize awaits."

I rolled my eyes at his ostentatious words. He was such an over dramatic prick sometimes. I motioned to the guys with my hand to follow me.

I pulled the door open, using the broken wood as a handle. It was dark inside, but that didn't bother us obviously. I still didn't see anyone, but I could hear the shuffling of their feet.

"This way." I heard Aza's voice reply.

I followed it to a back room that had been left ajar. I pushed the door further open, and hesitantly stepped inside, almost expecting an ambush. Instead, I found Aza, sitting on top of a few old wooden crates with his legs crossed.

"Old friends! I'm so happy you're here." He clapped his hands like a child seeing his best friends. "Your prize." He replied, sweeping his arm to the side.
