The next evening was tense. I could feel the emotions pulsing around the house from everyone. I tried to block it out as best as I could but I eventually ended up asking Colby for my amulet back.
Everyone was on edge, including me. I decided to go out into the backyard and do my grounding meditation before we left to go to Sam and Colby's induction ceremony. This was just so crazy.
They were about to become the freaking LEADERS of the LA vampires...and I was some kind of freaky half breed that they wanted on the Council too. I didn't even know what I was doing. The witches didn't know that I was this...hybrid creature. Except Melanie.
Why would they accept me being the liaison between their kind...I mean our kind, and the vampires? Probably not. To them, I was just a basic witch, not even knowing how to control or expand my own powers very well.
They didn't know that I had all this crazy energy, this constant buzzing inside of me that itched to constantly get out, unless I controlled it.
Would they really accept me if they did know?
Or would they just be forced to because of some stupid prophecy? The Grounding helped me to focus and let go of the extra energy, until it built back up again. Anxiety was racing through my veins so I felt like I would probably have to do that again soon.
It wasn't helping as much as it did last night. The whole house was going, obviously, and we were informed that we need to dress appropriately for a formal dinner.
"A dinner?" I asked Colby. "What kind of dinner do vampires have? We gonna have people just laid out on a table or something? Fuck that Colby!"
He laughed at me, his bright blue eyes crinkling at the corners. "Of course not! There will be the option to feed from WILLING humans. The same kind that visit here. These are the Counsel's personal feeders. They are screened, blood typed, daily habits recorded, all of that, so that they can receive the purest blood possible."
I dampened my lips, thinking about that. "Okay, so I should eat before we leave then?"
Seriously, I need to know. I was kind of starving. He threw his arm around my neck and kissed my cheek.
"We'll stop at Taco Bell." He chuckled. "Unless..."
I raised my eyebrows. "What?"
"Unless, you might be having a certain vampire craving?" He smirked at me and I hit in the shoulder.
"Stop. No. That's weird."
I didn't tell him that I had actually already craved his blood. This was just too weird for me to handle at the moment. Later.
I'd deal with it later.
He shrugged his shoulders.
"Whatever babes. I taste good. Your loss."
I rolled my eyes at him and grinned. "Come on Romeo, let's get ready."
It took us all a couple of hours to actually be ready for the event. I wasn't used to wearing formal wear and didn't have anything in the first place. I was in shock when, earlier today, someone had actually delivered everything that we needed.
Sam and Colby had ordered everything and had it sent over express. My dress was quite literally the most beautiful thing that I had ever seen before...except for Colby. Definitely the most elaborate.
It was silver, looking like it was encrusted with diamonds. The neckline came up and circled my own neck, like a choker, while it cinched in at the waist a little, right above my hips.
The bottom though. It flowed to the floor like water, pooling out behind me. The side had a split in it, clean up to the top of my thigh.
The shoes were silver and black strapped high heels. I did my makeup in a smokey, elegant manner, having Devyn help me out a little. She also decided that she wanted to help me out with my hair.
"I want it down." I told her, pushing one side behind my ear.
I knew that Colby liked it when it was down, and it honestly just made me more confident. She nodded, and went to work, twisting and straightening my hair. She hadn't needed my help since the last time.
I didn't know if that would last or not, so Corey was sitting outside the room, just to be sure. When everything was finished, I looked in the mirror and gasped. I blinked rapidly, wondering why the mirage in front of me wasn't disappearing.
There was no way that was me. She was gorgeous. Colby came into the room then, and my breath caught in my throat.
He was...mouth watering was the only thing that came to mind. He wasn't dressed in what I would call formal wear but damned if he didn't look good enough to eat. My eyes traveled from his black shoes, trailing up over his black pants, noticing his usual silver chain hanging from his belt loops.
Then further up, taking in his untucked button up gray patterned dress shirt that was unbuttoned about half way down his chest, his sleeves pushed up to his elbows, and his bulky silver chain hanging down from his neck to rest against his skin. His familiar silver rings adorned his hands, setting off the entire look. I finally found his face, the intense look there only adding to what I already felt.
I swallowed hard, the dryness scraping against my throat. My tongue darted out to dampen my lips as I held his gaze. A low rumble escaped his mouth, making me suck down more air into my burning lungs.
If I didn't have my amulet on right now, I might die from how intense everything was in this moment. I let out a shaky breath, keeping my eyes locked with Colby's.
"You l-look handsome." I said quietly, my voice coming out in no more than a whisper.
Good thing he had super hearing.
