A SMALL DANCE PARTY ENSUED AFTER BRIAN PUT ON "WE ARE NOT ALONE" BY KARLA DEVITO. Everybody was everywhere. John was head banging on top of the statue. Eisley was shuffling her feet up on a table. A few people were up on a shelf.

When it all came to a close, it was time for John to head back to the closet that Vernon had locked him in. Before he left, he planted a kiss on Eisley's lips, longer and deeper than the others. When they separated, Eisley smiled dazedly at him and he chuckled before climbing back up into the ceiling and making his way back.

Andrew, Allison, Claire, Brian, and Eisley, in that order, sat in silence on the railing near the desks. They'd been quiet since Bender left. Without him, there wasn't much to talk about. He was typically the one starting discussions.

"Brian?" asked Claire, breaking the silence after a few more moments.

"Yeah?"

"Are you going to write your paper?"

"Yeah, why?"

"Well, it's kind of a waste for all of us to write our paper, don't you think?"

Brian frowned, "Oh, but that's what Vernon wants us to do."

"True," Claire agreed, "but I think we'd all kind of say the same thing."

Suspicious, Brian said, "You just don't want to write your paper, right?"

"Yeah," Eisley cut in, "but you are the smartest of all of us." Brian blushed and looked down bashfully. "We trust you, Bri," Eisley smiled. Andrew agreed.

"All right," Brian told them, "I'll do it."

Claire smiled, "Great." Looking away from Brian, she turned her attention to Allison. "Come on," she said.

"Where are we going?" questioned Allison.

Claire pulled lightly on the girl's sleeve and repeated, "Come on!" When they both hopped off the railing, Claire pulled at Eisley's hand. "You, too."

Laughing quietly, Eisley obliged. Together, they went into another room in the library. Claire had evidently decided to give Allison a makeover, which lead to Eisley giggling every so often when Allison made a strange squeak.

"Don't be afraid," Claire cooed when she began working on Allison's eye makeup.

"Don't stick that in my eye!" the other girl countered.

"I'm not sticking it-" Claire cut herself off and leaned back a little, "Just close, just go like that," she told Allison, closing her eyes as a demonstration. Allison huffed, but did it anyway. When Claire began applying the makeup, the girl's quiet squeals began again and Eisley giggled. "You know, you really do look a lot better without all that black shit on your eyes," Claire said.

"Hey!" protested Allison, "I like that black shit."

"This looks a lot better... Look up."

"Why're you being so nice to me?"

Claire laughed lightly, "'Cause you're letting me." Allison hummed. "So, what's going on with you and Bender?" Claire asked, glancing at Eisley for a moment.

"Dunno," Eisley mused. "He's never been like that with me before."

"You guys have hung out before?"

"Yeah. Mostly detention, but sometimes we meet up behind the school to have a smoke. We don't really know each other all that well."

Claire was quiet for a moment, thinking. Then, she said, "I think he's in love with you."

"What?" Eisley yelped, alarmed.

"I think he's in love with you," Claire repeated nonchalantly.

"Yeah, I heard that," Eisley rolled her eyes, "but why do you think that?"

Claire stopped putting makeup on Allison to turn and face Eisley. "The way he looks at you," she explained gently. "He looks at you like you're the best thing in the whole world. When you were sleeping on him earlier, the look he gave you..." she paused, trying to find the right words to describe it, "It made me envious. Any girl would kill for a guy to look at them like that. He's got it bad for you." Eisley felt her cheeks grow warm. "And I think you're in love with him, too," Claire added.

Eisley didn't respond because she knew that Claire was speaking true. She hadn't realized it until Claire said something, but she did really like John. She felt happier when she was around him. Finally, she said, "I'm going to go."

"Tell him I said hi," Claire said with a smile before returning to Allison's makeup.

John looked up when he heard the door to the closet open and close softly. Eisley was standing before him, coat over her arm and smile on her pretty face. He grinned.

"You lost?"

She stalked towards where he sat and dropped her coat on the floor, "No."

He turned his body to face her and swung his legs off the side of the table. "What are you doing in here?"

She got up on the table and straddled his thighs. Her hands came up to cup his face and she pressed her lips against his. Instantly, his arms wrapped around her waist, holding her to him as he reciprocated the kiss. Eisley's arms wrapped around his neck loosely as the kiss deepened. It was a couple minutes later when they parted, breathing heavily and pushing their foreheads together.

"Be mine," he said quietly.

Eisley smiled and pressed a soft kiss to the tip of his nose. "Okay," she whispered.

They stayed locked in that embrace until Vernon came back to let John out of the closet. He gave Eisley a disappointed glance, but let them leave without a word. When they both put their coats back on, John wrapped his arm around her waist and walked with her towards the front doors of the school.

Dear Mister Vernon, we accept the fact that we had to sacrifice a whole Saturday in detention for whatever it was we did wrong. But we think you're crazy to make us write an essay telling you who we think we are. You see us as you want to see us. In the simplest terms, in the most convenient definitions. But what we found out is that each one of us is a brain, an athlete, a basket case, a princess, a wallflower, and a criminal. Does that answer your question?

Sincerely yours,

The Breakfast Club.
