Beam POV
"Forgive me son..." a man in shiny suit went down on his knees and asked forgiveness. "...it was I who sent your parents to this suicide mission."
We were called at the mayor's office after the cremation of our parents. They were hailed as heroes, the couple who saved the island, at least for a couple of weeks. They were able to deliver additional food supplies while we are waiting for the relief that will be provided by the central government.
"Mayor! Please get up." One of his aides tried to help him up. But he gestured for him to stop.
"It's alright. I'm the reason these boys are now orphans. I am not embarassed to ask for their forgiveness publicly." The mayor bowed his head again.
"Mr. Mayor..." He raised his head to look at me. "It's alright. You don't need to ask forgiveness. I am pretty sure my dad stubbornly volunteered for the job. That's just how he is."
"I don't blame you for anything." I sincerely wanted to comfort him. "But if you could extend help to my brother and me, I would greatly appreciate it. I'm still in high school and now I need to raise my little brother."
A soft pain pinched my heart. We're now orphans, the thought only weighed on me after I said those words out loud. My eyes now watery.
"I will take care of it nong..." The mayor said. "...you don't have to worry about anything."
Our conversation was cut short a man in a gray suit entered. "Mr. Jamornhum, we need to jumpstart our preparations for the revival of the offering ritual."
"Yes, Yes. I'll be right with you. I'm just speaking with the Vongviphan siblings." the mayor responded.
"Alright." The man was turning back when he stopped and said, "You're the Vongviphan's eldest right?"
I nodded.
"And you're an Omega?"
I nodded again.
"How old are you?"
"I'm fifteen years old sir."
"You're perfect!" I saw his eyes twinkle in delight. "Mayor! He's a perfect vessel!"
"Vessel?" I inquired.
"The Moon Goddess vessel for the offering ritual! If you volunteer, everything will be all set!" the man explained happily.
"No!" the mayor exclaimed. "This kid has sacrificed enough! He already lost his parents, I cannot ask more from him by giving up his life!"
"But mayor..." the man in gray tried to reason out.
"No! N'Beam will not be this time's vessel. I believe we have traditional selection if there will be no volunteers? We'll do that. But for now, I will not permit N'Beam's participation." the mayor declared.
"I will protect you from now on N'Beam, you and your brother Wayo." He ended.

At the cruise ship
Beam POV
I ran out of our suite with a shattered heart after hearing everything that my boyfriend said. I didn't reject his proposal, I just want for him to wait a bit. I am more than willing to be his mate. But he just accused me of wanting to be a dildo for everyone's dicks.
It hurts. That the Alpha I chose objectified me that low.
My feet automatically led me to the rear deck. This is my favorite part of the ship because I can see the beautiful sunset from here.
I cried my eyes out because of the deep pain in my chest. It somehow gave me relief and cleared my mind for a bit.
I realized, I was being unfair to Forth. Dropping a bombshell like that yet I did not even answer his question clearly. He must've been confused in how I reacted.
I was busy trying to calm myself down when my Alpha found me. I prayed for to resolve to face him. He apologized and invited me to go back to our suite.
I turned around and faced him. I tried to tell him my reasons but he said it's okay if I'm not ready.
My resolve faltered a little bit but my love for him made me strong. I will tell him the truth. It's up to him to decided if he will stay or not.
"To tell you the truth, I have so many reasons why I want to become the next vessel. But to sum it all up, I want to become the vessel for everyone.
Ever since the former Moon Hunter advised me that I'm a perfect vessel, deep down I was curious as to why. I did my own research. I gathered information and all of it points to the realization that it is an Omega's duty to become the vessel." I fidget as I tell my story.
"I want to do it because I want to protect the island. After you guys performed the last offering ritual, the storm died down and the seas went calm. I know I'm not one of those supertitious people but that's a fact. Being the vessel means protecting the island." I looked at Forth and he seemed intent into listening.
"I want to do it because I want to protect Wayo. Unlike the Alphas and Betas whose participation in the ritual is strictly from 18 years old and above, for Omegas, it's from 12 years old onwards. Traditionally, 12 years is considered the age of consent and given that we have recorded selection process, our modern laws does not apply.
So by the time of the next ritual, Wayo may still be young and may be chosen if no one volunteers. He already experienced the loss of our parents in his early life, I won't the burden of being a vessel be on his shoulders at an early age too." A tear dropped from my right eye.
"Finally, I want to be the vessel because I want to protect you." Forth eyes bulged.
"You will be inheriting your family's fishing business while P'Lam handles the politics side. You will spend most of your time at sea. I want to protect you. If me becoming a vessel, may make our seas safe for you, I will do it. As long as you're alive, I can continue on living and loving you even from afar. Because I love you Forth."
I bowed my head down. "That's the reason why I want to be the vessel. If you want to leave, that's okay, I won't take it against you."
Seawinds continue to blow my hair and tears as I await Forth's reply. Honestly, I'm expecting him to leave. I'm so selfish for wanting to do this without discussing it with him first.
But to my surprise, I felt strong arms cocooning me in his embrace. "I will never leave you Beam." I cried on his chest. I thought he was going to abandon me for sure.
He released me and cupped my face. "I will be your Moon Hunter. I will offer up my life and soul to you..." He drifted off as he captured my mouth and we shared a passionate kiss.
