I'm using this platform to spread awareness with my words about military couples. Be strong, God is here, and loves all of you <3.

Part One??

Astrid stood in the doorway, watching Hiccup pack his bags.

"Don't go." Astrid pleaded one last time. "Say you're sick, say you can't! Please, Hiccup! Stay!" she cried. Hiccup walked to her, his boots making hard sounds on the floor. He took her face into his hands, and gently wiped the tears off her cheeks.

"I can't. They need me." Hiccup whispered, holding her close as she sobbed. Berk was at war with a great force who wanted to destroy everything good in the world. Berk desperately needed forces, so a draft was made. And Hiccup had been called to serve. Astrid pushed Hiccup away. She got up and braced herself in the doorway.

"You have to get through me if you want to leave."

"Astrid please don't do this." Hiccup whispered, shaking his head. Astrid was mute with grief. When men were called to duty in this war, they never came back. Ever.

"NO! DONT DO THIS TO ME!" She shrieked. Hiccups face was stony.

"I will not hurt you."

"I know." She collapsed on the floor, covering her face, and broke down in tears. Sholders heaving, she never felt so scared in her life. Hiccup slowly approached her. Suddenly Astrid sprung to life, clinging to him. He held her, saying nothing. Gently, he put her down, and planted a soft kiss on her lips.

"I love you. So much. More than words could ever describe." He chocked out. Astrid only cried harder. He heaved his bags to his shoulder, and gingerly stepped over her.

"I'll come back to you." He breathed, "I promise."

Six moths. Hiccup had been away from Astrid for six months. He fought with every ounce of his being. Every fiber of his soul he put into keeping Berk safe. He read all of Astrid's letters, kissing her signature at the bottom, imagining it was her lips. He tucked all her words into the pocket over his heart.

"I love you." He whispered every night. He pictured the words flying to her, sounding in her ears, telling her of his promise he had every intention of keeping.

Astrid shifted uncomfortably. Her bump was large now, and her baby restless. She hadn't told Hiccup over her letters. It never seemed right to tell him when men were dying to protect Berk. It didn't feel right sharing happy news with him in an awful world. Astrid cried when she first found out. She didn't want to go through something as larger and scary as this without Hiccup by her side. Astrid imagined a thousand joyful scenarios, in a perfect world, where they could start a family. Not when he woke up to the sounds of bombs, and she lived in a refugee camp . It didn't feel right. When Astrid was younger, she thought she would never get married. As soon as she met Hiccup, she felt herself being content with imagining a future where she gave him dozens of beautiful Viking babies, and picturing herself as his loving and doting wife. Astrid was ready to become so domestic if it meant being with him forever. The happy world was all gone. And in its place, gunshots rang in her ears.

In the year Hiccup had been away, Berk had been saved. He was coming home. To his wife, and to his daughter. Daughter. A sweet word, like blue skys and gentle breezes in the spring. Astrid sent him a photo of their baby, a chubby-cheeked cherub, whom she had named Zephyr Valka Haddock. Hiccup kissed the downy tuft of auburn hair on Zephyr's head, and stared into her blue eyes.

"I'm coming home."

Zephyrs birth was a difficult one. Astrid went through it alone. With only the midwife by her side. When her daughter was placed in her arms, she had no one to assure Astrid that she had done well, to console her, to offer motherly advice. Astrid cried when she saw Zephyr. It seemed all she did was cry. She sent Hiccup a careful letter, with photos of her baby. Our baby.

Astrid waited at the airport gate. Zephyr was tied to her front, tucked against her chest, sleeping. She scanned the room, looking for a tall auburn haired man. Green eyes sought her out from the crowd.

"Hiccup! HICCUP!" She yelled, waving her hands over her head. He ran. She ran. And they were in each others arms. Kissing, hugging, never letting each other go.

"I love you. I love you. I love you." Tumbled out of their mouths.

"You came back." Astrid whispered, resting her forehead against his. Hiccup smiled at her.

"Duh. You think I was gonna leave you? Hell, your burnt cuisine is better than the food we had." He joked. Astrid pulled back, and punched him in the arm.

"Thats for scaring me." And closing the distance between them, she said, "And that's for everything else."
