LOVE YOU GUYS!

~Ellie~

Astrid took a deep breath. She stared at her hands clasped tightly in her lap. Her lawyer handed her a tissue. Astrid wiped her tear stained face.

"Its alright dear." the lawyer said gently, "You don't have to talk if you don't want to." Astrid took a shuddering breath.

"We were so in love." She sobbed, and threw her head into her hands. "Where did it all go wrong?"

"Where did you find him?"

"We were childhood friends. We were so close. But then his dad died. And he closed me off. There were fights. And they were so violent. I didn't realize how bad until...until...he.. he hit me." The lawyer said nothing, only scratching on a yellow notepad.

"I was so blind. I tried, honestly, to make it work. Gods, I was so stupid. I thought if we loved each other, it would heal. But the wounds were too great." Astrid broke down again, silently longing for those arms to wrap around her, and tell her its going to be okay, and to bury her face in his brown leather jacket, but he was gone.

                                                                                     *****

"Hiccup!" Astrid cried, running out to the front door, phone in hand. "I was just about to call the police!" Hiccup says nothing, focusing on hanging up his beat-up brown leather jacket. Astrid narrows her eyes.

"Are you ok?"

"Don't worry about me, I'm fine!" he snaps. Astrid stops dead in her tracks. Hiccup never snaps at her, no matter how angry he gets.

"Hiccup?" she breathes, afraid to say anything else.

"Just leave me alone. Please, Astrid." He whispers. Astrid closes the distance between them quickly. She cups his chin in her hands.

"No, no you're not. Tell me what's wrong so I can help." she murmurs.

"I...I..." he stutters. Then she smells the alcohol on his breath. She explodes.

"You've been drinking, haven't you!" she shrieks.

"Be quiet Astrid!" he shouts louder. "You don't know what its like to loose a father! You don't know!"

"Then show me! Help me understand, so I can help you!"

"I DON'T NEED HELP!" Hiccup roars. Astrid's breath catches.

"Yes you do." She says. "You come home late every night, from god knows where, and now I find out you've been getting wasted! How do you think this makes me feel?!" voice getting louder and louder.

"How you feel? HOW YOU FEEL?" he yells. "I just lost my father! The ONLY person who I looked up to! My rock, my foundation, the person who raised me when my mom abandoned us! Of course I'm going to be devastated!"

"No!" Astrid screeches. "No, that's not what I'm saying! Gods, you never listen! I'm worried about you! I love you! Yet you can't accept that you are loved!"

"I'VE NEVER BEEN LOVED!"

"NO! DID YOU NOT HEAR WHAT I JUST SAID!? Why cant you accept the simple truth that you are not the same scrawny, scared boy you were! Why cant you accept that you're wanted! That you're loved! This, this is why your father didn't want you, and your mother left! Because you don't want yourself!" Silence. Astrid stood in shock, covering her mouth with her hands. Then a fierce blow hit her full force on the face, sending her spiraling down to the ground. She sat there, horrified, blood dripping onto her hand.

"Don't. EVER. Say. That." Hiccup breathed heavily. "I'm done with your mouth, Astrid. It's over." He stalked out, and slammed the door full force.

"HICCUP!" Astrid screamed, running towards the door. She flung herself to it, a second too late. It had already closed in her face.

"Hiccup." She whimpered, sliding down. She buried her face in her hands and started to sob. It couldn't be over. Not like this.

                                                                                      *****

"He still hasn't come back for his stuff." She finished quietly, picking off nail polish. "I still wonder if her really means it." Her lawyer finally looked up.

"Honey, Its been a month, 1 week, and 4 days. He's not coming back." Astrid broke down again in tears.

"I don't want to believe that! He has to still care, he has to still love me, right?" she bawled. The lawyer patted her knee unloving. Astrid flinched.

"I've drawn enough facts for a case here, Ms. Hofferson. You have very good legal ground here. I'm willing to press charges, and I believe we can get serious compensation for you wounds and other damages. If you are willing to proceed?" Of course, Astrid thought bitterly, You're only here for the money.

"Give me 24 hours?" Astrid offered. The lawyer smiled thinly.

"Yes, yes, of course, miss. Whatever you want."

                                                                                 *****

Astrid sighed as she parked her car. And rested her head on the steering wheel. She didn't want to go home. Home reminded her of Hiccup, and thinking of Hiccup hurt. She pulled the keys out of the ignition, pulled her purse over her shoulder, and made her way up the steps to their small house. It was painted a cream color, with red shutters. She smiled sadly. They had painted it together. Then her smile faded. They had both fought the whole time. Astrid could feel her heart pang with guilt. Maybe it was partially her fault.  Hiccup's dad had died, and red was Stoiks favorite color. And red was the color of love, blood, and fire. Three things that were all very touchy to the couple. But Astrid had insisted. She slid her key into the lock, and opened it. The hallway light was on, and from the doorway she could see Hiccup sitting on the couch, staring at something.
