Song: Fade (Egyptian)
Several more days passed in a similar manner. Ariadne roamed Olympus during the days and she seemed to become more at home. I drove the sun chariot, read poetry with her and at night I fell asleep with her and dreamt of her.
Ariadne began to consume every hour of my day. In fact, I was so distracted that California had one of the warmest days on record.
"...And on that cheek, and o'er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!" I read to Ariadne one night. Her head was resting on my chest, as I read her poems from one of the many poetry books I had found for her.
"I like that one," she said, "It's nice."
She rolled off of my chest and propped herself up on her elbows facing me.
"I take it you're done with poetry tonight?" I raised an eyebrow at her.
"Yes," she replied.
I put the book to one side and looked at her. Her hair was messy but far less so than it had been when I first met her and her eyes seemed to be glinting with something that I couldn't identify.
"I don't like being stuck on Olympus all the time."
I sighed and fixed her with a look, "Ri, the world is a dangerous place for a demigod at the moment-"
"I lived in Tartarus, is there anywhere more dangerous?"
"Ri, I don't want you getting hurt. This is how I keep you safe."
"I can keep myself safe."
"You shouldn't have to."
"Well, I need something more to do than roam around Olympus and scare nymphs."
"You really shouldn't be mean to nymphs."
"I'm bored Apollo, I've never been bored in my entire life and I hate it."
"Boredom can be good for mortals sometimes."
"How would you know, you're immortal."
"I've been mortal before."
She looked moderately surprised at this, which pushed me to explain it further.
"Once my father got especially annoyed at me and cast me down from Olympus. I had to complete some trials in order to regain my immortality."
She said nothing but was looking at me in a slightly different way than she had before, which made me wonder if I had something on my face. It took me by surprise when she quickly leant forward and kissed me. She withdrew and narrowed her eyes at me, waiting for my response.
My stomach felt as though it was doing cartwheels and my head was spinning. It had been so sudden and I hadn't realized until it happened that it had been something I had been wanting to happen. I lay there, almost frozen, unsure of what I should do next.
She was studying my face intently, watching the various emotions crossing my face. I steeled myself and leant forward to kiss her. This kiss was far more gentle than the previous one and conveyed all that went unsaid between us.
I found it odd that in such little time this mortal girl had come to mean so much to me. The kiss became my whole world, everything fell away apart from me and Ariadne. She was everywhere, her hair fell across our faces, creating a curtain between us and everything else, her smell (that of the soap that she had been using and a faint hint of cinnamon) absorbed my senses.
The fact that she kissed me first was the first example that I was given of how much braver Ariadne was than me. She would give me many more reasons to believe this in the future.
The poem that Apollo recites is 'She Walks In Beauty' by Lord Byron.
I'm in love with how their relationship is turning out on-page. It's always been this way in my head and I'm loving sharing it with you!
