Song: Mad World (Tears For Fears)
Ariadne fell asleep on the sofa, her now clean and bandaged feet tucked underneath her, as she wrested her head on the arm wrest. She was curled up in a ball so tight that I didn't see how she would ever be able to untangle her limbs.
I sat on the other side of the room, quietly strumming a guitar and trying my best not to wake her. I hummed along as I tried to establish a new melody, which was far more difficult than usual with so much on my mind.
With Ariadne asleep, I was finally able to get a proper look at her. Her extremely long dark hair was one of her most defining features, and as she slept it was splayed out around her. She had thick eyelashes and I wondered how she was able to open her eyes without them getting all tangled up. Her cheeks had a slightly hollow appearance, which reminded me of malnourished children and she was so thin that I was sure I could've counted every single one of her ribs. I made a mental note to feed her a hefty meal when she awoke. Her fingers twitched slightly in her sleep, and her eyes rolled around under her eyelids.
I hit a sour note on the guitar and flinched, before discarding it and getting up to stretch my legs. I left the room in which Ariadne was sleeping and moved towards the kitchen, which was in pristine condition given that I had never had any reason to use it. I decided to set out cooking Ariadne a home-cooked meal, before very quickly realising that I had no food fit for a mortal. I conjured some up, planning to make a platter of cookies, which I had heard from mortals were often a favourite. I wondered what Ariadne's favourite food was, before remembering that she had probably never had any normal mortal food.
My attempt at cookies did not go well, and I soon found myself putting out a fire and taking some charred bits of biscuit and chocolate chip out of the oven. I sighed at the sight of my failure and discarded it, intending to try again.
Before I could summon new ingredients I was startled by sudden screams which filled the house. I skidded back to where Aridane was sleeping and saw her writhing around on the sofa, in danger of falling and hitting her head on the ground.
I hurried over to her and did my best to hold her still as she screamed. I knew that this was a night terror, and that I shouldn't attempt to wake her from it, and that I just had to let her ride it out. She did ride it out, but not until several of the longest moments of my immortal life. She awoke crying and I let her sob in my arms.
"It's okay Ariadne," I told her, "whatever is haunting your dreams can't hurt you."
She said nothing, but her sobs began to lessen and eventually turned into hiccups.
"You're wrong you know," she said eventually, withdrawing from my arms and wiping away her tears.
"Wrong about what?"
"She can always hurt me. It's what she does."
"Were you dreaming about her?" I asked, knowing full well that she was talking about her mother.
"She's all that I dream about."
"Ariadne I will not let her hurt you, you are safe here on Olympus."
She met my gaze, raising her eyebrows to question that statement.
"Apollo, I thought you were going to call me Ri."
I actually can't with Apollo and Ri. I've been sitting on the beginnings of their love story for so long and now I get to share it with ya'll!
When I'm tired I watch movies where stuff gets blown up. I'm tired and re-watching Deepwater Horizon.
