"Who are we going to see?"
"The only person who can stop a siren in a desert. If you're going to continue on into this obvious trap, at least try to keep up wolf."
"So are we going to see Kevin Costner?" Derek asked, slightly confused. Not that he wasn't at least enjoying himself. It was kind of weird and cool to be inside a dark roller coaster. The tangle of steel was reminiscent of a forest- without all the nice smells and bugs and leaves and fog though. So maybe only like a forest if you squinted at it.
You just see the Strip outside just in cuts of light. The inside of the roller coaster ran through New York, New York- the casino yet another cover for a world within a world. There were old scents here, Derek knew. This place had been a business center for many type of people. Money, drugs, magick. There was something to this coaster that drew business.
"Not unless you can think of a reason a descendant of Hercules wouldn't make this scene worse in 100 words or less. And this is the wolf you're tying your fangs too?"
"Just keep going-" Luke said, being tight lipped. Frankly, he didn't think his now obvious feelings for Derek were anyone's business but he found this particular Literariat incredibly rude and it was just yet another reason to be done with- whatever this was.
"Here."
"What?"
"Here. Use your eyes vampire."
"Derek, do you have a torch?"
"Uhhh no but ooh hey I have a lighter in this pocket. Let's see-"
The shadows of the metal made shadows that looked like roots against the wall. They'd walked the length of the place, ducking and shuffling along and now they were just at a wall. A wall with insignia on it that only a Literariat could decode without chewing their own head off.
"What does it mean?"
"It means shut your face and let me do my work," Tom snipped.
Luke and Derek stood there, silently as he did his work. Luke felt Derek's hand moving toward his own and he grabbed it, entwining the fingers and giving it a good squeeze. They stayed like that for a long silent moment. Luke's heart ached for one more night of normalcy with his wolf before this was over. He was so afraid of what he'd find. Of how far and deep he'd taken them both without regard for returning to their lives.
It was likely they'd die. It was likely the last time they'd had sex would truly be the last time with anyone. And though Luke had now lived for at least a decent amount of time (thought almost nothing for a vampire) he felt as though the grains of his own hourglass were running still and slow now. Almost empty.
Was death inevitable?
"Tom?" Luke asked.
"Yes?" His voice had changed a little and his hand was no longer moving, reading inscriptions and decoding in his brain into a usable message.
"What does it say Tom?" Luke said in a hushed tone. He grabbed hard onto his wolf's hand.
"It says you're screwed." Tom turned. His eyes burned orange. Derek's lighter went out and so all Luke saw was the eyes before Tom pressed a button inside of the insignia scribbles and Luke and Derek fell together into the darkness.
