You shake your head "I don't know."

You both walk silently through your hall then to your kitchen. You grab a knife from your set, making sure it was a big one. Jade grabs a bat from the top of a shelf. You raise a brow at her.

"What? You think I never imagined this happening?" She whispers.

You both jump when you hear knocks again.
You had already begun shaking, your hand trembling as you tried to grip the knife tighter.
Jade walks in front of you, your body feeling frozen. She walks to the front door, going on her tiptoes and checking the eyehole.

You wait for her response, holding the knife with both of your hands now.
She turns to you, lowering her bat and a shocked expression on her face.

"It's... it's just a kid" She mutters out loud.

You shush her, walking to the door and seeing for yourself. There you see a little boy in front of the door. He wore rags and old clothes, his hair a mess and his body so very thin. Just a homeless boy.
Jade pulls you "(y/n), come on. Let me open the door."

You move out of her way, letting her do so. Jade opens the door, speaking softly when she sees the boy.
"Hey, kiddo. Where did you come from?"

The boy stays silent.

"Ok... are you hungry?"

Another silence, but you assume the boy had nodded since Jade smiles. She moves out of the boys way and lets him in.
You notice his features more when he walks in our house.
He was pale, around the age of what you assumed 7 or 8.
His face was also thin, and his eyes a bright blue.

"Hey" you greet, putting the knife behind yourself in a attempt to not scare him.

Jade leads him to our dining table "here, sit, I'll make you a sandwich and maybe call someone so you can stay out of the cold."

As Jade goes to the kitchen to make the sandwich, you put back the knife and sit across the boy on the dining table.
You smile to him, but his expression was emotionless.

"My name is (y/n)... what's yours?" You ask.

He stares at me, his blue eyes going dark. He looks away "Bob."

Bob, you'd always expect a middle aged man with that name, never would have thought to meet a child with such a name. But of course all those middle aged Bobs had to have been born, as well as be children.

"Bob. It's very nice to meet you, Bob" you smile, extending a hand. He stares at it, almost for too long. Then his takes out his small hand and grips your hand. His hand felt cold. You shake it softly before letting go.
"What are you doing at a apartment complex, Bob?"

"H-hungry" he mutters. He really doesn't speak much.

"I bet, but don't worry, Jades making a very good sandwich for you. I promise you, it'll be delicious. You're not allergic to anything, right?"

He shakes his head "no."

"Ok good. Hey, do you have someone we can call so they can pick you up?"

He shakes his head again "no."

"No family members?"

Shakes his head.

"No friends?"

He continues.

"Nobody?"

One last shake.

He was alone. You felt saddened from that.
"Oh... okay."

Jade comes by with a plate of 2 big sandwiches.
She puts it down in front of Bob, a kind smile on her "here you go bud."

He stares at the diagonally cut sandwiches, his eyes still dark. He doesn't move, just staring. You thought he was hungry.

"I promise it's good bud, at least try it" Jade tells him. He still doesn't move.

"Here" You say, grabbing a sandwich slice "ill try it with you."

The boys head finally raises, staring at you.
He slowly grabs a sandwich slice, following your movements. You open your mouth and take a bite from the sandwich. Bob does the same. A flash of disgust seemed to have covered his face but it quickly fades, almost like it was a hallucination.
You hum "hmm good right?"

He nods.

Jade smiles, glad to see him eating. You eat more of your sandwich, not realizing how hungry your were.

"This is really good, Jade" you tell her.

"Thanks."

You put down the sandwich "I'll be right back, Bob. Just keep eating and we'll try to figure out what to do, ok?"

He nods. You suppose he knew you wanted him to take another bite so he does so. This time you saw no disgusted expression, but rather a satisfied one. Strange, you wonder why you didn't see that the first time.

You walk with Jade to the kitchen to talk to her privately.

Authors note: The rest of the chapters will be 1st person pov. Sorry if you like second pov but I honestly can't keep it consistent, I struggle with it for some reason.
