Good Morning, Dear One

He woke up, his lips dry and cracked, the liquid relief being the copper taste of blood in his mouth. He knew the blood meant he was internally bleeding somewhere, he probably fucked up his stomach. Someway, somehow, the situation keeps getting worsened. He tried to get up but he weakness only allowed him to move in a small motion. Moving was a bad idea, he weakly rolled to the side as his stomach rejected the water and berries he drank earlier. He was really concerned now, because there was blood in his bile as well. He felt a warm hand on his shoulder, if he had the energy he would jump or scream, but he let himself fall to sleep.

He woke up on a broken mattress, he could feel the solid springs on his back but he didn't care. At first he didn't even notice it was broken, it was a lot better than sleeping on the forest floor. He jumped up and looked around, not even noticing all the energy he had.

"Relax child, if I was going to hurt you I wouldn't have wasted supplies nursing you back to health." The voice was female, warm and soothing, like a kind mother's. He looked down at his leg, it was bandaged, along with his stomach. His stomach, so it probably was internal bleeding earlier in the woods. He leaned back on the bed, trying to keep his breathing calm "Who are you? What happened?" She sensed his panic pretty easily. She waited a second before speaking again "I found you in the woods, puking blood. My name is Thea, I'm here to help you." She came out of the kitchen with a bucket of boiling water, she poured it into a bowl and poured cold water from another bucket into the bowl. Lucas came to the conclusion that she didn't have running water. She looked up at him, her eyes were magenta, she looked older but not elderly, almost middle aged. She rolled her bright eyes "Caught off guard by me eyes, eh?" he realized by her speech that she wasn't educated properly. Lucas' voice was involuntarily shaky when he replied "Sorry, It's just that I'm not used to meeting deviants up close. I guess that's going to happen more often now." Her look softened "Aye, you're gonna meet a ton of us, I guess it was easy to hide you, two hearts and all."

Two hearts, he had two hearts, it explained why he was so good at gym and he recovered from injuries faster, it also explained his metabolism. He was shocked though, but more angry. At his mom, at society. How the hell did this woman even know? "How did you-" "I healed you, believe me, getting your bleeding under control was a pain." He kinda felt bad that she went through all this trouble, "I bet you're wondering why I helped you. I saw you in the newspaper, saying that you were wanted so they can register you properly. I knew they would probably let you die after they registered you. They often make us take care of ourselves. New to this world, I couldn't let you die."

"I'm thankful, I really am. What do I owe you?" She shakes her head, "You owe me nothing child, you'll live this life. You choose who you are, you're not fully human, nor are you fully one of us. Your place in the middle will tear you apart, but you decide what to do with it. For now, I'll teach you things, remedies, how to blend in. Then when you're well off enough, we'll get you registered." Lucas couldn't believe what he was hearing; "I can't ask this-" "You didn't."

She presses a cloth against one of his non bandaged wounds, when the hell did she get a cloth? He gritted his teeth "When do we start?"

She smiled.

Dear Journal | Who gives a fuck about the time and date?

It's been about a week since I have woken up in the care of Thea. I introduced myself shortly after she told me why I was here. Apparently I'm a mutant/deviant/whatever the official name is; she's helping me into that lifestyle while teaching me how to harness the forest. It's only been a week and I've learned and studied so much. I know I'm not even close to knowing everything and I probably never will, but at least my eyes have been opened.
