I sat at my desk finishing up paperwork while also eating dinner at the same time.
An abrupt knocking snapped me out of my concentration mode, still trying to finish up my last page.
"Yes?" I called out once I was done.
I waited for a bit before the double doors were pushed open by my father, who is entering the room.
"Hello father."
"Hello dear."
"Is there something you wish to talk to me about?"
"No. I came here to collect all reports and paperwork you have finished so far."
"The stack on the cart near the window. I accidentally spilled tea over some of them."
"Some of us had worse. I spilled a bottle of ink over mine," Father chuckled as he left with the reports.
After working on reports and paperwork, I set them aside and began to study the history of the 12 kingdoms. Or what used to be the 12. Now, there are at least 20 kingdoms, after 2 kingdoms split into many. The clock tower started to chime as I was at midpoint of my work. I look up at my clock to only see that it was midnight. I quickly finished my remaining work and headed off to bed.
I was awoken in the morning by a loud crash and terrified screaming from below. I shot up from my bed to wash and change. I walked out of my room to flags, portraits, and furniture strewn all over the place. I then looked outside to see that people were running around frantically, trying to get water. What's happening? Why are they running to get water?
"Eldegarde!" A voice exclaimed. I turned to see Baratos running towards me.
"Lord Baratos. What is going on?"
He stopped in front of me, gasping for breath before yelling, "Something or someone tried to attack the castle but the Temple of the Mother has been set aflame in the process. We need to help put it out."
"Is there anyone guarding the tomb?"
"Yes. Lady Mila and faction seven."
"Alright. Let's go to the temple. Fill me in on what you know about this event so far."
He nodded as we ran to the temple. He told me of how one of the healers had heared shattering of glass, and how he went to investigate. He found shattered glass all over the lobby and a broken window. He reported the intrusion and followed the trail of mess before spotting a cloaked figure trying to get into the tomb. The figure fled as soon as he was spotted and crashed through the window and into town. People have suspected that it was him who started the fire at the temple.
"How do you know it was a guy?" I asked.
"Blood sample left on a shard of glass. Apparently it seems like it cut his upper right arm while crashing through the window."
"I see. Has anyone tried to put out the fire yet?"
"Yes. Those who have water based and those who can consume fire."
"And how is it holding up?"
"Slow progress."
"Understood."
I scanned the situation the moment I noticed us getting closer and closer to the temple. Men, women, and children of all age, race, and size were trying their best to put out the fire with the help of others. I walked up to them but no one notices me as they are focused with putting out the fire. I held my right hand up and willed water to form a dome and filled the dome with water. As the fire died, the people began to look around for the source of power.
"Is that Lady Eldegarde?"
"She has magic?"
"I thought it was locked away centuries ago."
"Can you feel all that power radiating from her?"
"If the Eldrids' magic was locked away centuries ago by Queen Eleanora, then... How is she able to use magic?"
