Chapter 5. The new Principal

When I finished reading it, all I heard was a stunned silence. Some people looked up at me like I had just something that was credible. Some people threw that look of disgust, since they knew the truth behind my every word.

"It's awesome." Alana clapped and Hannah joined. Anna was staring at me in complete daze. I didn't know what I should say; I felt awkward, meeting all the stares.

I sat down in my seat as I stared at my notebook.

"Can I read now?" Simon sneered.

"Yes." The teacher waved at him. Simon looked at me before his eyes locked on his notebook. He waved it and then said: "I am not actually going to read it. But really I have something to ask to Ms. Malik." He said and I stared at him in shock. What was he doing now?

"Islam spread because of wars. Jihad, yes, that's one of the most honored thing in your religion, it's not? Why state that you're not fond of violence, when indeed you love it all the way?"

"Wars? Islam? Are you stupid? Oh, I am sorry; but really? DO you really know what Jihad means? It's not violence; it's getting killed when you fight against those who fought. Muslims just don't go and kill every people they see on the way. You can't just blame Islam from what you heard, learn, if you want to know, or please just shut up! Ignorance is not really bliss, at least I think so!"

Alana gasped at my side "Girl, I had never heard you talk like this."

"Any more question?"

"I have so many. You spread Islam by violence; suicide bombings, air crash; that's what you like most."

"There has been flight crash etc. But in reality, nothing is proved; it may either be one of your puppets doing it blaming it on Islam. No, I am not talking about Muslims. There are good and bad in every religion. But when a Christian or Jew kills, do this kind of terrorism, you didn't call it 'Christian Terrorism' or 'Jewish terrorism', do you now? But whenever it happened because of Muslims, you just think it's all related to Islam. Why? Because you're so blind to see the truth in it. And spreading religion through suicide bombing? Really? I want you to become Muslim; what would I do? I would let you learn about Islam, I would share news about Islam; but killing you? Then that's just stupid. What's the use in spreading Islam to you, when I actually killed you? Is this some sort of stupid game? Huh?"

"That's not truth; there are so many verses in Koran that talk about violence."

"Oh really; but as far as I know, they are not the verses talking about violence, but war. Violence, terrorism is killing people without any forewarning; killing thousands of innocence. But Qur'an never talks about violence in that context. Violence is what America did when it dropped bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Violence is what when America attacked Iraq and Iran for the prosperity and oil wealth in those nations. Violence is what happened when the twin tower was destroyed." I stopped and looked at him with a small smile. He seemed to be in deep thought.

"But have you ever read this kind of violence in Qur'an. You wouldn't have. What Qur'an talk about is 'BATTLE.' Heard about it? The one that two kings, with soldiers would engage, meet face to face and war against each other; they would propose a fixed date and a fixed place. Killing the commoners and innocent people during the battle was forbidden in Islam. Lighting fire to religious place, irrespective of the religion, public property owned by either a Muslim or Non-Muslim, was prohibited by Allah. So, that's not what you called violence, right? That's kindness!" I spied a glance at him. His mouth was grimly set and his eyes were furious.
