Chapter 8. Life is not a Game
I sat next to my Dad with a small smile in my face in the dining table. My brother Yusuf and Jake had been talking to each other like they were best of friends. My mom was motherly to him after she heard that he was an orphan from me. On the whole Jake fit in like he belonged. It was really a surprise. My family was always open-hearted and generous, but to accept a boy just like that?! I knew it was because the truly care about what Islam orders. Yusuf had been telling about the basic principles in Islam and Jake was hearing it with wonder. It was as if he never knew what Islam was.
"Salam means peace?" he questioned at some point and Yusuf nodded with a smile "Yes it is."
"Someone had told me its a word used to show your displeasure with non-muslims!" He exclaimed with a frown "However I don't beleive it, I know that there's been false assumptions about Islam. That's why I am eager to learn Islam." he finished with a solemn look. I nodded as Yusuf clapped him on his back.
"You're in good lead son, and Allah will lead you to the right path." my dad said with a kind smile. I was really proud to have a family like this. They were good at this and I again thanked Allah for my family.
There were times when the faith of these people held me strong in my faith too.
They prevented me from wrong deed, simply by following Allah's word.
When that night was over, I went to sleep with a smile. Jake had already left with that Qur'an translation and I remembered the words my Mom uttered when he left to him: "Son, May Allah guides you. "That which Allah wills (will come to pass)! There is no power but with Allah." (Qur'an 18:39). So may Allah wills for you to be in the right way." He then nodded and said "In Shaa Allah." if Allah wishes, and left. I was stunned. Oh my God, he was learning fast. That was what put a smile in my lips as I slept that night peacefully.

That morning I woke up with the same smile. When I dressed and drove towards school, Yusuf and I was talking about Jake. It was a good morning. I waved to Yusuf before I left.
The first period was English and as I sat there listening, the teacher walked towards me and said "The principal wants to talk to you." And my smile left my face just like that. I knew this was coming.
As I walked to the Principal's office, I thought about life and its strangeness.
I knew life wasn't a game. We were all here for the test and Allah would test us in all possible ways to ensure that we're in straight path and we're Faithful.
"Or think you that you will enter Paradise without such (trials) as came to those who passed away before you? They were afflicted with severe poverty and ailments and were so shaken that even the Messenger and those who believed along with him said, "When (will come) the Help of Allah?" Yes! Certainly, the Help of Allah is near!" (Qur'an 2:214)
So Yes. Allah was always near and I didn't need to panic.
I knocked at the door and heard him say "GET IN."
I straightened my shoulders and entered, whispering,
"I WON'T FAIL. ALLAH'S HELP IS NEAR!"
