"What the fuck is this dork doing kissing my girlfriend?" Derrick shouts, making me jump back in shock of the pure volume of his voice.
"I, It, We-" Michael starts, but he stops himself when the angry Derrick shoots him a stern look.
"Was I talking to you? No. I asked why the fuck you were kissing my girlfriend, to anybody but you. Where's your Jersey? I need to know which sport I'm going to fucking slaughter tonight. Do you even have a Jersey?" Derrick asks, lowering his voice a tad so the whole house won't be able to hear him shouting.
"Derrick, it was just a dare dude. Calm yourself." Luke tells Derrick, trying to stop the events sure to take place if he continues.
"Would you like it if you got to a party and found Ana sucking faces with some dork like this guy? His hairs red! I don't even think he's a Jersey! Are you a Jersey or not?" Derrick asks Luke, and then spits at Michael.
"No I'm not but I-"
"But you what? Thought you'd kiss my girl and everything would be all dandy?" Derrick asks, taking a step toward Michael who has now crawled to the other side of the room, trying to keep his distance from Derrick.
"Derrick, we aren't dating anymore. Back off." I sigh, standing with his Jersey slung over my arm. I walk the few steps over to him and hold the Jersey out. "Here's your Jersey back."
"Alli, I'm not taking it back." He responds, turning his attention to me. "You're keeping my Jersey because we're dating and we love each other. That's how it is. Now baby, go take a seat and I'll be right there. Give me a second to deal with this asshole who kissed you, I'll be right back." He says.
"Don't 'baby' me Derrick. I told you yesterday that we're over. Take your damn Jersey because I'm not keeping it." I tell him, holding the Jersey out to him. By now, people are leaving the room not wanting to deal with this drama, or some are acting like they aren't paying attention, but I see them glancing from the corner of their eyes.
"Why Alli? We love each other, right? If you love me, and I love you, we stay together. That's just how it is, right?" He asks, going to rub my cheek but I take a step back, not wanting his touch. I'm done with his bullshit.
"If you'd like to talk about why we're through, come talk to me outside. I'm not dealing with this in front of everyone. Just leave Michael alone, it was a fucking dare. I kissed him, he didn't touch me." I say then turn around, and on second thought I add, "Oh, and here's your damn Jersey." And I toss the Jersey behind me as I make my way out the back door, into Noah's almost empty backyard.
"Want one, Alli?" A boy asks me as he takes out a package of cigarettes. Now, I'm not a person who smokes every chance given, but occasionally I'll have one. Like now.
"Yes, please." I smile at him, taking the cigarette from him. "Can I borrow your lighter too? Sorry."
"Sure." He passes me his lighter, which I hand back after lighting the cigarette.
"Thank you." I tell him one last time before I take a huff from the cigarette.
"Allison, are we going to talk now?" Derrick asks tapping my shoulder.
"Don't call me Allison." I tell him as I turn around. He has the Jersey I tossed slung over his shoulder, and I take another long huff from my cigarette.
"Okay, baby, why do you want to break up? What happened?" He asks, playing dumb. He knows he cheated on me.
"I told you not to call me baby anymore. And you know what you did Derrick, go ask Samantha if you can't remember." I scold him, finishing with another inhale of my cigarette.
