Sam technically still lived in Nebraska, although he was hardly ever there. He was always in a different state doing something with Nate or Jack and Jack. I hadn't seen him since the day before I left Omaha to come back to school for the year. It was almost January, which meant I hadn't seen, or talked to, him in five months.

"So, what's Sam doing at the moment?" I asked Jack, trying to seem nonchalant as we sat in his living room.

"I don't know. He's coming to Cali in a few days. Why?" Jack looked at me, concern practically written across his forehead.

"I was just curious since I hadn't talked to him in forever," I lied. After Sam texted me the other night I told myself I wasn't going to text him back. I told myself I wasn't going to talk to him as long as Jack and I were together, and so far I hadn't, but if he was going to be here in person I couldn't ignore him then.

"I can tell you're lying, Lakyn. Seriously, what's up?" Jack asked again.

"Seriously Jack, nothing's up. I promise if something was up, I'd tell you." I could tell Jack wasn't buying it because he nodded slowly and turned his attention back to the tv. Even if I did tell Jack what Sam had told me, it wouldn't matter, nothing happened. And if nothing happened, I didn't a reason to drag Jack into it.

I laid my body against Jack's and he draped his arm around me and for a moment I forgot that Sam even existed. But only for a moment, because no sooner than his existence left my brain, it returned. My phone buzzed and I looked at it. Of course the message was from Sam.

I pulled myself away from Jack so that he wouldn't be able to read anything the message said and risk him finding out. The message said almost the same thing it did a few days ago.

"Babe, seriously," Jack said, brushing hair from my face. He cupped my face in his hands and moved my head so I was looking at him. "Tell. Me. What's. Wrong."

"It's nothing. Nothing that matters, anyway," I told him. He gave me a look and I debated on telling him, but I eventually decided against it.

The next few days were very anticlimactic, but my guess was it was just the calm before the storm. From what I could tell, Jack had completely forgotten about how weird I had been acting.

Jack had texted me and I was now on my way to his house. I knew there was a very high chance that Sam was going to be there with Jack and Jack so I almost denied Jack's invitation to come, but I knew that would raise suspicion so I had to go.

I walked into their house and I saw Jack, Jack, and Sam sitting on their phones.

"Hey," Sam said, smirking at me. I smiled at him and sat down next to Jack.

"So. What are we doing?" I asked Jack.

"We were thinking," Jack started, "about going to a party. You in?"

"Yeah, sure," I agreed.

A few hours later and the four of us were on our way to the party. The house was full of people and as soon as I stepped out of the car I could almost feel the ground vibrating. We walked to the door and walked in. There were already plenty of drunk people stumbling around, tripping on air.

I had left the boys to go to the bathroom and when I left the bathroom I saw Sam standing at the end of the long hallway I had to walk down to get back to Jack. I sighed and tried to walk past him but as soon as I was close enough to him he grabbed my arm.

"Please let go," I said softly.

"Please just talk to me for 5 minutes," Sam begged. His breath smelled faintly of alcohol so I knew he had been drinking at least a little bit.

"5 minutes is all you get," I told him.

Sam told me how he regretted dating Alaska and basically everything he already told me through text. I listened to him, although it wasn't going to change a thing. Right as I was going to tell him that I didn't feel that way for him anymore he grabbed my face and pulled me into a kiss.

I pulled away from him as fast as I could and his face turned into a look of regret.

"That wasn't okay Sam. Doesn't it mean anything to you that I'm dating one of your best friends?" I asked.

"I know it wasn't okay. I'm so sorry," he apologized, but I was already moving away from him.

I found Jack and grabbed his arm. "What's wrong, baby girl?"

"Nothing. I just want to leave. I'm starting to not feel good," I told him.

"Okay, we can leave." Jack told Jack that we were going to leave and we started walking towards his Jeep. We got in and started driving away. The guilt about what happened only moments before was heavy on my chest, even though I hadn't done anything wrong.

"Jack," I said and he looked over at me in response. "I have to tell you something."

"Okay," he said confused.

"But you have to promise you wont get mad."

"I promise."

"I mean it, Jack."

"I do mean it. I wont get mad."

"Sam- Sam kissed me." I told him. I saw his jaw clench and his knucles turned white around the steering wheel.

"When?" he asked.

"Right before I told you I wanted to leave." I admitted.

"Why didn't you tell me this before we left?"

"Because I know what happens when you get angry and I wanted to give you time to process and cool down before you see Sam again."

Jack's jaw was still clenched and he looked like he was getting angrier by the minute. "He kissed you right?"

"I promise. You know I wouldn't do that, right?" I clarified.

Jack sighed. "I know." He kept one hand on the wheel and grabbed my hand with his other. "Will you stay with me tonight so I don't kill him when I see him again?"

"Yeah. As long as you don't kill him when I have to leave."

"I promise."

"Okay." I agreed. Jack brought our hands up and pressed my hand to his lips. "I love you, Jack."

"I love you too, Lakyn." he said and kept driving.
