Daniel grabbed Ivy's wrist and she turned around. Towering over them were three of the schools best athletes.
"Well, well, well. What have we here? If it's not the little deaf girl and the new kid. Isn't that cute," said the tallest one out of the three.
"Look, we don't want any trouble," said Daniel very cautiously.
"Neither do we, but that's because it's your first day. We catch you alone again, and your screwed," he stepped closer emphasising screwed. "Don't let it happen." With that they turned and walked. Daniel didn't take his eyes off of them until they were out of sight. Ivy tugged on his flannel shirt sleeve and pulled him down the rest of the deserted corridor.
When they arrived at room 2.70 Daniel was surprised to see that there was only one other girl. She was sitting facing a large canvass that had different abstract colour on it. Ivy kept moving me forward. She tapped the girl on the shoulder. She turned around and Daniel saw on the canvass in front of her was an ear with colour and music notes pouring out of it.
"Hi, I'm Hannah. And it looks like you've met Ivy," she said with a friendly tone. She was the kind of girl you would picture hacking into a computer sight or listening to music whilst riding a skateboard, and painting, which is what she was currently doing.
Nobody else joined the class that day. It was just the three of them and Mr. Ackerman. They spent that class getting to know each other.
--Daniels POV--
I enjoyed art with Mr. Ackerman. He was really weird but he was a great art teacher. I got to chose a project to work on through out the year. He explained that Hannah was doing a draft of what would be a 3D ear that stands a meter tall and Ivy was focusing on inspirational quotes and room decor. She will eventually have 100 small images. I was still clueless as to what I was going to do, but spent the lesson brainstorming and talking.
I found out that I have all of my classes with both girls and for three of the classes it's just us, music, art and lit. The other classes we have are full though, maths, chemistry and human bio. Unfortunately, the sports were bigger than the arts here and I'm not sporty. All in all I enjoyed my first day, even though I only made two friends.
That night I got home and, as usual, dad was out. It's just me and him now, mum passed on two years ago because of cancer. Ever since then, Dad grips a bottle in one hand and the closest wall with the other. He drinks like its the only thing he knows.
I went inside and started planning some more of my art project. Only an hour passed before I heard knocking at the front door. I saw the familiar face of my father through the gold rimmed peephole.
"Open the bloody door, Son," he shouted.
Without procrastination my hand flew to the lock and opened the door. He hadn't seen 17 hours of the day and he was drunker than usual. I shut the door and turned to ask about his day but he had already grabbed another bottle and was half way to his room.
