You're trying to concentrate on packing your bag for the mission tomorrow but it's proving to be almost impossible with Sam up your ass about what you'll need and to not forget anything. The whole team is over at your's and Tony's house, making last-minute preparations for the mission.

You've been trying your best to ignore Sam and just focus on what you're doing, or else you know you'll definitely forget something. He's distracting you a lot and you've been secretly giving him subtle eye rolls when his back is turned.

"Oh! And also don't forget-"

"Sam!" You interrupt him and he jumps. You take a breath and give him an apologetic look, as you realise you probably just scared him by yelling out of nowhere. "I appreciate it, I just...need to do this myself."

"A jacket. In case it gets chilly." He continues his sentence and you can't help but scoff and laugh at him. "The mission is tomorrow! You're packing at the last minute I just don't want you to forget anything."

"Thank you, Sam." You tell him and take a break from packing, placing a hand on his shoulder to reach up and give him a friendly kiss on the cheek.

"You're welcome." He smirks and you roll your eyes and walk back to the bag on your bed, continuing to pack as Sam leaves your room.

Bucky's POV:

"You sure about this, Buck?" Natasha asks me as he holds the scissors in her hand, a razor in her other. Tony, Steve and Bruce are with us in the garage, giving me worried looks, all sitting close by, wanting to see the transformation from long hair to short.

"Yeah, I'm sure," I tell Nat and I hear her sigh before she starts cutting and shaving bits of hair, making it look good. The others are watching closely, Steve looking a little bit scared to see the old Bucky again after decades and decades. She works on my hair for a while before placing the tools down and spinning the chair around to admire her work.

"Oh yeah. You're basically unrecognisable now." She says and the others agree as she hands me a mirror. I take a breath before lifting the mirror up, looking at my new hairstyle. I smile at how well Natasha cut it and styled it and I thank her by standing up and embracing her in a hug.

"This is perfect for the mission! There's no way Hydra will recognise me, not at first glance at least." I tell her, picking up the mirror again and running a hand through my hair, getting used to the short feeling. "I can't wait to show (Y/N). I wonder what she's gonna think of it." I blurt out, not really knowing where that came from. "Thanks, Nat!" I speak up again, trying to change the subject and ease the tension and I know it works when she giggles.

"No problem, glad you like it." She smiles and heads back upstairs, probably to see (Y/N) or Wanda, leaving me there blushing and trying to figure out why my mind went straight to (Y/N).

"It looks great. You look like the old Bucky." Steve chuckles and I put down the mirror and nod, flashing him a smile and agreeing with him.

Your POV:

You had just finished packing your bag and zipping it up, convincing yourself that you had everything you needed to make yourself not worry about it anymore. You're just about to go to the kitchen to get a glass of water before Natasha walks in.

"Hey, (Y/N/N)." She greets you as she walks into your room and takes a seat on your bed, next to your bag. "Packed already?"

"Yeah, just finished." You tell her and you turn around and see her smirking uncontrollably at you. "Oh, God. What is it?" You ask her, her cheeky expression worrying you a bit.

"Nothing, nothing." She teases and you roll your eyes.

"Tell me!" You say as you sit down in the middle of the bed, crossing your legs and shoving her a little. She turns around on the bed to face you, also crossing her legs.

"I just finished cutting Bucky's hair." She smirks and you raise your eyebrows, wanting her to go on. "He seemed pretty excited to show you what it looks like."

"Why?" You scoff, getting off of the bed and walking to your on-suite in your bedroom, pretending to remember something you forgot to pack but really, you're just trying to hide your blush for her. You weren't really in the mood for her scolding you and asking you questions that you couldn't even answer.

"No idea," Nat replies and collapses back on your bed, playing with the hem of her shirt.

You didn't know why you had been feeling this way about Bucky lately. Maybe it's just the way that he's agreed to protect you on the mission that you admired about him. You always had a weakness for strong men, especially when they're willing to protect you. Even more so in situations like this, when it's life or death. I mean, who doesn't like a strong man? But that's definitely the only reason you felt like this. Just because it was your weakness, I mean, it's happened before.

You just couldn't figure out why you didn't hate him anymore. He did something awful to you, it's not like you could just forget about that. He killed your parents. Why would you not hate him? Although, even though you didn't like admitting it, despising him for the last few years has been exhausting.

Maybe you could take a break from it.

Just until the mission is over. Then you can go back to hating him.

Right?
