Chapter 2: Science

Hanji's POV

"So, taken any thought of it?" Moblit chuckles gently as he sat next to me during our science class. "Having a girl like you in the society would deeply help us- so... what do you say?"

I chuckled softly, finally finding acceptance. With a quick nod of my head and a smile, "Yeah, I accept going into the Science Society. It's an honor being offered that- especially since... the way people classified me..." My eyes looked away from Moblit when I quickly thought about Levi. No one accepted him- and the Science Society accepted me as my own. 

"Well, thank you for coming in. Meetings are after school on Wednesdays at 3:50 pm. See you this Wednesday then." He then walked away to his seat- and I swore I saw Levi passing through the hallway. Before I could even do anything, the bell rang and I was forced to stay in the classroom.

Once the bell rang, I quickly ran out of the science class and into the busy halls. Thankfully, I had an off-hour because I was gonna spend my time searching for Levi. It's been 2 days since I saw him last... but after having my science class... I was too busy being engulfed into the possibility of science.

I searched and searched to the end of my off-hour.  It all ended with failure. I couldn't believe it... I failed. Defeat sinking into me as I couldn't find him at all. And just during lunch, I went back to that courtyard where I first met him. At first, I was gonna leave because I couldn't find him there; a rustling noise caught my attention and I followed it.

Levi was passed out on the ground, hidden by some bushes. I knelt next to him, chuckling softly. How softly he snored... how gracefully he slept. I was inclined to reach out and stroke his raven-colored hair. But, I was stopped by piercing stormy eyes. 

"What are you doing?"

With his booming voice and piercing eyes, I gasped and jumped back. "L-Levi-"

He grunts and sits up, rubbing his head. "I'll ask you again, four-eyes. What are you doing?"

His eyes were so intimidating, I couldn't just... stare at them any longer. With each second, it was getting stormier. If they were calmer clouds in his eyes, I could stare in them forever. "I... I was looking for you... and I was about to give up..."

"Why did you want me, four-eyes?"

That's the second time he called me that name. The first day we met, he never called me that. Why is it now he's calling me that? "I just... wanted to meet you again, but I never had the chance to see you."

"Meet me again? You're no longer an outcast..."

"But you are..."

His chuckle was so subtle and surprising. "I'm always am. There's nothing to change that, Hanji. There's nothing. You have your science club thingy- you're accepted. But... but I'm not." He then looks away, sighing softly. 

"I will accept you..."

"Just you?"

"If no one else will, then yes. To me, I want to repay you for helping out." Words just began to spout out of my mouth- I had no idea what to do. "I want you as my friend..."

Levi turned around, sighing gently. "Friend...? Well, I can tell you're not lying... if you betray me, I'll teach you a lesson you will never forget- understand me?" Nervously, I nodded my head. "Good... because I'm entrusting me to you, Hanji. I never do that."

"Thanks for being my friend."

He scoffs, closing his eyes and staring up at the sky- letting the warm light onto his pale face. He breaths ever so gently- "Don't you need to go?"

"And you?"

"I'll stay here." He smirks a bit, seeing his storming storms in his eyes calming down. "I don't want to go to classes- all to... easy to me. I don't need it."

I sighed, chuckling softly to his boldness. "If it's all too easy for you, you can come to my science class. It's meant to be the hardest class of them all- but I pass it with flying colors." I smiled gently towards him, involuntarily taking his hand. "Come on- it'll be fun. Besides, it's better than sitting here and... not doing anything, right?"

"Guess so..."

"Let's go then!"
