Hello everyone! I'm so excited to be launching this book. I do hope you enjoy reading!😁

Caroline's P.O.V.

"Cara!" I heard a high pitched squeal. I turned around and saw my little sister, Veronica, running towards me, her arms opened wide. I bent down and hugged my sister.
"Hey V. How was school?" I asked her, already knowing the answer.
"Horrible! Kyle hasn't gotten any better, and the teachers don't help me." I sighed. This was normal. My sister was bullied in school for being poor, and the teachers did nothing to stop it. I had been to enough conferences to know they were just total jackasses. But yeah. Veronica was bullied for being poor. And I don't mean poor like you don't get a phone or live in the nicest house on the street. I mean dirt poor.
I'm Caroline Rodgers and my life officially sucks. I know you may be wondering why I say this, but trust me. You'll understand everything. My mom gave birth to me when she was 17. My dad was 18 and considered a legal adult. When my mom got pregnant with me, her parents kicked her out of their house. My dad had an apartment so she just moved in with him.
Soon after, I was born. We lived in that small apartment for a long time, before my dad could get an actual house. We were poor, but we were happy. 12 years later, my mom got pregnant again. I had been going to public school because we couldn't afford anything else. Medical bills were already an issue. When my sister was born, my mother died. Something had gone wrong, resulting in her death.
2 years later, my dad died. By this point I was 14 and had already started working. However I wasn't a legal adult yet so my sister and I couldn't live alone. So my grandfather took my sister and I in. My grandfather from my dad's side. Not my mom's. To be honest I never met my mom's family. They hated me.
For years I worked, and my grandfather worked. My sister went to public grade school as I went to public high school. High school sucked. Everyone was mean and I got bullied for being poor and having no parents. Finally, when I was 18 I went to a very cheap college and got there through mostly scholarship. It was really hard and the dorms were expensive, but I worked 2 jobs to pay for everything.
When college ended I came right back home and began working. I was hired for a lot of dead end jobs because I couldn't work too much. My grandfather had gotten ill and I needed to be around constantly. Now I'm 24 and my sister is 12. My sister is about to go to high school, but I'm scared for her. My years were awful and she's already being bullied.
"Caroline!!" I snapped out of my trance to see Veronica standing with her arms crossed, and an angry look on her face. "I've been calling your name for 3 minutes. What were you thinking about?"
"Nothing. Just zoned out. Sorry. Let's go home." I walked home with my sister by my side, telling me all about her day. We had a car, but didn't use it much. I needed to save money, and spending it all on gas was not an option. I also had had a phone, but I rarely used it, because I didn't want to spend a lot of money on phone bills.
My sister and I walked up to the front door of our tiny house and entered it. As I opened the door I saw my grandfather hacking and bending over trying to stay standing. I ran over and grabbed him by the shoulders and slowly brought him to the couch. "Get some water for Papa, V." I told my little sister. She nodded and left, but only to come back with a glass of water, I gave the water to my grandfather. Soon his coughing stopped.
"Thank you girls. Something was caught in my throat. Now that my coughing is done how was your day Veronica?" Papa asked my sister. Just like me, he knew the answer.
"Awful! Kyle won't stop bullying me. The teachers aren't even stopping him." She complained. While some would be annoyed that their little sister complains, I didn't care. I still remember complaining to my parents about a boy named Nick who bothered my all the way to hell.
"Oh I'm sure everything will turn out fine. What about you Cara?" My grandfather asked me.
"It was good. I'm actually going to an interview tomorrow for a new job. Hopefully this one though, will not turn out to be a dead end job." I told my family excitedly.
"That's awesome Caroline. Your parents would be so proud of you." I smiled and hugged my grandfather. "Out of curiosity what are applying for?"
"Personal Assistant of Alexander Wilson of Wilson Enterprises. All the magazines say his father is letting him run the company this year to see if he is ready to take it over. It's all over the tabloids."
"Sounds interesting. What is this Alexander Wilson like?"
"No one you want to know. Now who wants dinner? I heard we have three microwave Mach-n-Cheese dinners in the freezer!"

And that, my darlings, is the first chapter. This chapter is really just for you to know the characters and get a feel for their life. Oh and if there was any confusion Caroline calls her grandfather Papa. I just thought that may be a little confusing. Just like V is Veronica's nickname and Cara is Caroline's nickname. Anyway I hoped you liked this chapter. See you soon!
