Caroline's P.O.V.
I arrived at Starbucks and immediately rushed inside. I was excited to see Jason, especially since it had been so long. As soon as I entered the building I saw him. Even though it had been years, he still looked the same. Just more muscle. His blonde hair was as unkept as ever and his rich blue eyes were filled with glee. He seemed so alive right then and there.
"Caroline!" He called once he noticed my presence. I smiled and ran to him, hugging the living daylights out of him.
"Jason! I've missed you so much!" I cried as I backed away. He was smiling widely as he looked down at me. I'd always been shorter than Jason. Now he was 6'2 and much taller.
"I can only agree. You look awesome, even if you've had a lack of food. Still short as ever though." I laughed and playfully hit him in his arm. "I'll order while you grab a table. You still get the mocha right?" I nodded and went to sit at a table made for two. Soon Jason arrived with our drinks and placed mine in front of me, not before sitting down. "Now tell me. How's life with Mr. Billionaire?" He asked teasingly.
"It's ok. He has weird mood swings though." I didn't know what else to say. Like would I just tell him that I almost had sex with Alex? Hell naw! "But enough about that. How are you? Seeing anyone?" I asked him eagerly awaiting his answer.
"No. I don't have anyone. I've just been too busy to worry about dating. Hey tell me, how's Veronica holding up? Last time I saw her she was being bullied by a boy, what's his face, oh right! Kyle right?" I looked down at the table.
"Yep. Still in that same position. She says she's ok, and I believe her. Still though, she's been getting more and more upset over the whole ordeal. I wondering if I'm not doing enough to protect her. She's only twelve and is still being tormented every day. And lord knows what'll happen in high school!"
"Hey look at me. Veronica is a strong kid. And we all know that in the end Kyle will be learning a few minor lessons." I laughed at what Jason had to say. He never once failed to make me laugh. I guess that's why I loved him so much. He was this gentle, kind, human being.
"We should go see them. Right now." Jason laughed and we made our way to my old home. I parked my car and got out, while Jason did the same with his. We walked up to the door and I knocked on it swiftly. Veronica opened the door.
"Cara!"she squealed and hugged me. I hugged my little sister tightly and almost cried at seeing her. For some reason it felt so long since I last saw her. "Too tight." She breathed out. I laughed and let go. Then V looked behind me and saw Jason. "Is that you Jason?" She asked him, as if she had just seen a ghost.
"Come here squirt!" He called her. She hugged him and he did the same. Though Veronica was 12, she had been through so much and still acted very much like a child. And I was glad. When I was 12, I was serious all the time and did nothing for fun and basically just worried. "You've grown a lot!" She chuckled.
"Cara what happened to that dick, billionaire dude? Are you and Jason back together?" She asked, worry filling her voice. I looked at her disapprovingly because of her language, but there was humor in my eyes. I suddenly notice her tug her long sleeves down. Odd.
"No, Jason and I are just friends. He's visiting and we thought we could stop by to see you. And that dick billionaire has a name. But nothing happened to Alex. Everything is the same. Now let's go inside." Veronica laughed and we all made our way in the house. "Where's Papa?" I asked.
"He's napping. I wouldn't wake him if I were you. But I'll tell him you stopped by." She said. V tugged her sleeves again. Then I realized that she shouldn't be wearing long sleeves. It was hot out and even though I was wearing jeans, I could still take off my flannel. I looked at her arms and noticed lumps under her sleeves.
"Jason give us a minute. V come here." I brought Veronica to my old room. She seemed confused and nervous and kept tugging her sleeves. I sat on my bed and looked at her. "V pull up your sleeves." She backed away.
"Why? What are you talking about." Fear was evident in her eyes and voice. I sighed.
"V come here and do it." Veronica walked closer to me but kept her sleeves down. Panic rose inside of me. I grabbed her arm gently and lifted her sleeve. I gasped loudly. There, all over her arms, were scars. Jagged scars with blood all around them. Some bandages were wrapped around her arm covering up new scars that she just made.
I looked up at my little sister. Tears were rolling down her cheeks as they were mine. I cried as I hugged my sister. I stroked her hair gently. "Why V? Why would you do this to yourself?" I asked her once I let her go.
"Everything is going wrong! First I never meet mom. Then only when I'm 2 dad dies! Then I get bullied for not having parents and for being poor. And now you're gone! What else can I do? All my life I have had bad luck."
"I'm so sorry Veronica. But things will get better. I'm promise with everything I have. You know what I'd do to keep you safe." I told her.
"You'd kill yourself. You would die of it meant my safety. And we both know that." I laughed and hugged her tight. But she was right. I would die of it meant Veronica would be safe.
"Do you want to stop? The pain I mean. Do you want to stop feeling this way?" I whispered.
"More than anything. But how?" She cried out. "All I know is pain. And the only way to make it go away it cutting."
"You can get help. I'll hire a therapist or psychologist, I don't give a damn! Just something that will help you. Only if you want that. If you don't then we'll figure something out."
"I want that. Anything, I just don't want this stupid pain!" I cried in joy and hugged her tightly. Finally maybe I'd be able to put some true light in my sister's life. Maybe she'll finally be happy. But there was only hope beyond that. A faint strand of hope. But still, there was hope.Eeeee! I love this and I'm so excited I am writing this story like this.
