"Have you summoned me by yourself? How reckless. I suppose you wish to be haunted." A deep sonorous voice reached your ears from behind you.
Turning around, you squeaked in astonishment as the spirit you had summoned appeared before you surrounded by a cloud of what you assumed was mist.
Delighted by the surprised sound you made, he continued: "Is that correct, little mouse?"
"I..." You trailed off. Your mind was too hazy to form a coherent sentence due to all the alcohol you had been consuming before his arrival.
"Cat got your tongue?" The spirit teased, showing you a cunning smile.
Chuckling wearily, you admitted in a slur: "Honestly, I was bored and... drunk." You put your finger on your lip and winked at him as if asking him to keep the secret.
His eyes widened in surprise for a mere second before the spirit regained his composure. 'What an interesting little creature', he mused.
"Interesting," he observed, taking a drag on his kiseru pipe. "Instead of calling your ex-lover or a friend, you've summoned me. How curious," he remarked, exhaling a thick, dense column of smoke.
"I didn't think it would work. I didn't even think you were real." You puffed out your cheeks in a childish manner.
"Did you not believe in my existence? I'm hurt." He placed his slender hand dramatically over his chest.
"So, now what?" You inquired, staring at the silver fox ears twitching lightly on his head.
"So, now what, indeed..." His voice trailed away for a moment. "Have you... got any more sake?" He inquired, tail swishing from left to right as he looked at the empty sakazuki resting on the tatami mat next to you.
Smiling cheekily, you replied: "You bet, Mr Fox."
"Mr Fox?" He repeated in mild indignation.
"Mr Spirit?" You queried, tilting your head to the side.
"Just Mitsuhide is fine."
"I'll bring some more sake, Just Mitsuhide."
He blinked in bewilderment and shook his head. "My, my... just how drunk are you?" A pleased smile crept on his face. You were a very interesting human, indeed. "Perhaps, I will haunt you." His thin lips quirked up into a foxy grin.

"Whatever is occupying your thoughts?" Mitsuhide's deep voice roused you from your reverie.
"Hm? Oh, I was just thinking about the night we met," you replied with a gentle smile.
His silky, silver hair used to be so long when you first met him. You would brush it every single morning. However, a few months ago he decided to cut it short. So, instead of brushing his hair every morning, you stroked his ears and smooth tail throughout the day, much to his chagrin.
"I'm amazed you even remember it. You were as drunk as a Lord that night," he noted.
"It wasn't that bad." Your cheeks turned a faint shade of pink at the embarrassing memory.
"Oh, I assure you it was." He chuckled lightly. "Here, allow me." He filled the cup you were holding in your hands with freshly made tea.
You thanked him and took a sip of the delightful beverage. "Mm, it's delicious! What kind of tea is it?"
"Why, the tea sold to me by the tea seller. Shall I describe him to you?"
Seemingly dissatisfied by his deflection, you stated: "I was asking about the flavour." Shaking your head, you proceeded: "You and your inability to taste..." You sighed, before taking another sip of the warm drink. "Well, it's a very good tea and the aroma is very pleasant," you added, at last, noticing his downcast expression.
"That's precisely why I bought it. I thought you might like it."
"I do. Thank you." You offered him a pleased grin. "I'm sorry, there's nothing wrong with your incapacity of tasting things, Mitsuhide."
Puzzled, he titled his head. "Pardon?"
"You seem gloomy, I thought I had offended you with—"
"Gloomy? I believed I was smiling." His brows knitted together.
"You're certainly not smiling," you snickered humourlessly.
"Huh..."
"You've been off for quite a long time," you pointed out. "Is there something bothering you, Mitsuhide?"
"I wonder..." He replied, tapping his chin with his fingers. "Perhaps, it is time to haunt someone else..." The words hesitantly fell from his lips.
His words cut you like a sharp blade. "Are... Are you planning to leave?" You eyed him carefully.
"I've been musing over that thought, yes."
"Don't!" The lonely expression on your face made him feel a ripple of surprise in the still pool of his heart. "I promise not to play with your ears and tail, anymore. I-I promise not to tease you back anymore... just don't leave, please. I don't want you gone. I'd miss you very much. Don't leave me, Mitsuhide," You pleaded, staring at him with desperate, teary eyes as you took a hold of his arm.
"(y/n)?" Mitsuhide had never imagined you felt that way about him. When had simple interest over a little, fragile creature like you turned into that strange and overwhelming feeling burning passionately in his chest? When had that interest turned into love?
"My, I did not think you'd make such a cute face," he teased in an attempt to keep his cool.
"I'm serious, Mitsuhide." You frowned, tears streaming down your aggravated face.
His golden eyes softened."I know." Wiping your tears with his gentle fingers, he spoke in a soothing tone: "Don't cry, I won't leave you."
"You promise?" You asked with downcast eyes.
"I promise," he declared, cupping your gorgeous face in his hands.
When your eyes returned to his own, he felt love for you welling up inside him. It was then when he realised you were someone he cherished.
Wrapping your arms around his neck, you leaned forward and pressed your quivering lips to his.
A faint, shocked gasp left his lips. A few moments later, he returned the kiss, pulling you closer to him. His warm lips felt like a silken caress. You felt his body heat through his kimono and inhaled his pleasant natural scent mixed with the sweet aroma of the kizami he liked to smoke.
Mitsuhide broke the kiss gently and stared at you with fondness in his golden orbs.
"You... you never cease to amaze me, (y/n)," he susurrated against your parted lips.
"I love you, Mitsuhide. Please, don't ever leave my side."
"My, my, I thought we had sealed the promise with that loving kiss." He chuckled lightly. "I won't leave you. Not when I've finally understood how I feel about you." He gave you a sincere smile —a smile that was reserved only for you— and caressed your cheeks with tender digits. "I love you too, (y/n)."
The rough yet dulcet timbre of his voice was as spellbinding as a piper's flute. And just like that, you were drawn to his alluring lips once more.
"You can play with my ears and tail to your heart's content, you naughty little mouse." Mitsuhide nibbled your lower lip, eliciting a soft squeak from you. "It's going to be even more fun teasing you, now."
You scowled and batted him lightly on the shoulder. Mitsuhide snickered at your flustered and annoyed expression before stealing your lips in a fleeting kiss.
