Chapter 1 - Congratulations!

"Congratulations, you have won tickets to see one of the X-Factor 2012 Auditions!" I screamed and punched the air in delight. Finaly a day off!

"Charley? You have a customer to serve! Get off the bloody phone!"

I rolled my eyes and put a hand over the phone speaker.

"Coming mum!" I yelled back.

"Sorry what where you saying?" I asked the person on the phone.

"We will email you details tonight." They said in the same boring tone.

"Eek thank you! Bye!" I squealed before hanging up.

How could my life go from really bad to perfect in less than twenty four hours?

Just two hours ago my dad had hit me. Badly. I looked at the faint purple bruise that had started appearing on my left arm. That would end up a bad one.

"Come on Charley!" Mum frowned, grabbing my sore arm and making me flinch in pain.

"Whats wrong now?" She frowned as I held a hand over the bruise to cover it up.

"N,nothing" I stammered, biting my lip.

"Just get going." She frowned, taking her hair out of the ponytail and walking into the kitchen.

I walked up to the cash register, just in time to take the next order.

An old lady and her husband stood patiently waiting for me. The lady had a bright smile that lit up her wrinkly face. The man was also smiling, but looked a little more grumpier.

"Hi, what can I get you?" I asked, putting a smile on to hide my pain.

"Hello dear, can I have.." The woman started scanning the cake shelf before her eyes stopped to look at one. "Can I have the Honey Carrot Cake please?"

I nodded, and got one out for her.

"And could I have the brownie please?" The man asked, taking a second to decied.

I took out one of the brownies and placed it on a plate.

"Anything else?" I asked.

"Two black coffee's please." They said in unision.

"I'll be with you in just one second!" I said smiling and giving them the plates.

They walked off to a table by the window happily.

Aw how I loved seeing old couples together! They seemed so, so happy.

I grabbed two mugs from the kitchen then filled them with coffee.

"Hey Mai? Could you give this to the old couple at table 23 over there please?"

My best friend Mairead smiled and nodded, walking towords me with her waitress uniform on.

Her shoulder length hair was in a high pony-tail, and her brown eyes shone.

"Sure!" She took the mugs from me.

"Thanks" I smiled as she turned around and walked towords the table.

I looked at the clock. 3:50pm. My shift should finish in ten minutes.

Great.

I walked back up to the cash-register, to wait for any other custumers.

In came Anna and Elena, both talking.

"Hey guys! Guess what!" I shouted to the two girls from across the café.

They both turned their heads and spotted me.
