Help Me Gray

Chapter Ten

BANG BANG BANG

The loud sudden sound rips me from my sleep and I sit up, clutching my hand to my chest. My heart beats so fast and hard inside my chest that I can hear my heart beat in my ears. I cocking my head to the side to see if it happens again.

My heart nearly leaps out of my chest and I jump to my feet as my eyes flicker to the window and see that it's still dark out. "Who wakes people at this time of night," I say loudly as I cross the room to answer the door. When I open the door I see a wide eyed frightened looking Gray out of breath. "What is it?!" I ask, afraid something terrible happened. Instead of answering lunges at me, shoving me against the wall and grabbing my face with his hands.

"Natsu!" He yells with relief in his voice as he presses his forehead to mine "I came home and you weren't there. I thought..."

I shove Gray away from me and he stumbles backwards and falls onto his butt. "Why the hell are you all over me recently!?" I bellow angrily. "I don't like it! And stop following me everywhere and acting like I'm some hurt dog that you need watch over all the time!"

Gray winced at my harsh words but stands up and and starts walking towards me. "I never meant to make you uncomfortable." He stops walking when he's only a few feet away. "I just... I really care for you Natsu. We all do."

He's speaking in a calm and gentle manner and somehow it really pisses me off and makes my blood boil. "You sure have a funny way of showing it!" I screech at him, my hands bursting into flames. "Day in and day out you guys make fun of me at my expense. 'Natsu can't do that, he's too dumb,' 'Natsu causing trouble again,' 'Natsu messing things up again.' I can't handle it any more. It used to be fun when it was just simple teasing but now I can't get them out of my head! Every time I try to do something all I can hear is one of you sitting on my shoulders telling me I can't..." I fall to my knees and my flames go out, leaving me feeling cold. "I- I-" Tears blur my vision and roll down my face until they meet at my chin where they gather before they get too heavy and fall to the floor. I cover my face not wanting Gray to see me cry.

"Natsu..." He says as I hear him get closer.

"Please, go," I beg through my tear soaked hands. "I want to be alone."

"I'm not goi-"

"I SAID GO!" I hurl a fireball in his direction but it misses and hits the wall. I never intended to hit him but I wanted to make it look like I did to scare him away.

A few moments pass before I hear footsteps leading away and the sound of my front door clicking shut.

"You're a shitty friend," the voice says.

"Leave me alone."

"Look at what you did." I look up at the spot where my fireball had landed and notice a sizable chunk of the wall is melted. "What kind of friend would put another in danger like that?"

"I wasn't trying to hit him!"

"But what if you had? What then?"

"I just wanted him to go away," I whisper. Images of the fireball hitting gray fills my head. Gray starts to melt and cries out for me but I cant do anything but watch. "STOP IT!" I yell as I start hitting myself in the head to make the images dissapear. "STOP!" Another blow to the head and everything goes dark.

When I come to I have a pounding headache and feel chilled to the bone from being on the floor for so long. I prop myself up on one arm and tenderly touch my head. "Defintely bruised..." I say to myself. I flex my hands and note that my fingers are also in a fair bit of pain with little bruises scattered about the backside. I can't go to fairy tail like this...
