What a better way to start the book, then with a calming first chapter?

(Suggestions are read, not all done)

    Y/N's POV

It's been such a long day, my feet are throbbing with pain from the blisters. Out of all the days, why wear Vans on a spirit day?

I trudge along the dusty, uncleaned, wet sidewalk. This day has been horrible. I was late to three classes, I forgot to pack my lunch, and I missed the bus. Even though it's a fifteen-minute walk home, I would have been more willing to walk if I wasn't so tired.

Ten minutes has passed and I am approaching the local park I practically grew up in. All I can think about is how much I want to just shower and snuggle with Beetlejuice.

Damnit..

Beej, told me he was going to be away tonight until ten or eleven p.m. My earbuds are playing my favorite playlist, the one Beetlejuice made for me. He always likes to sneak his little messages into my everyday life. I always have wished that I could be with him more often. Somehow, we've made a relationship out of almost only four hours of contact a day.

As I'm pondering my life choices, I see the foggy painted two-story house I have been living in since I was fourteen. My once-soft style has changed a lot since I first stepped foot in my home. It was Beetlejuice. I walk the driveway, taking much longer than I usually do and slide my hand on the side of the exterior walls. It's my house and I have a loving demon inhabiting it.

I grab the keys from inside my backpack and slowly twist open the creaky knob that is attached to my house. I smell the pumpkin-scented candles my mom bought from Bath&BodyWorks. The only thing missing was-my mom. She had left to the store and left a note next to the candles.

I'll be back soon. Sorry I just didn't text you. Mommy's phone is not working. Love you sweetie. Blow out the candles, please.

        Love, Mommy

Yes, my mom still makes me call her Mommy. I also realize that the house is way too quiet. I should probably check if BJ is ok.

Oh right, he's not here right now.

I start to feel alone as I walk up the many, many stairs. Each step, filled with anxiety and sadness. What if he never comes back? Memories of my dad leaving settle in. Without trying to think of it anymore, I run to my room and jump face-first onto my purple, stripey, gothy bed. The realization kicks in that I have homework to do.

I feel terrible. I wish Beetlejuice was here.

As if he was reading my mind, I hear the familiar voice of the demon I love. My eyes stop flowing and I run out of my room to man himself, Beetlejuice.

He caught me and hugged his arms around my face, clearly noticing I was upset.

"Babes, you alright? Wait, did someone hurt you," Beetlejuice hugged me tight and suddenly went into evil mode.

"N-no, I just had a rough day," I coughed out.

Beej scooped me up, bridal style and gave a peck to my forehead saying, "Poor babes, why didn't you call this ghost for help?"

He looked into my eyes like his usual self, kind, but mostly a tease, always getting himself in trouble.

I explained to Beetlejuice the whole event and how I thought he wouldn't be back until later.

"Babes! You know I was just joking, right? Oh boy, I was just going to say that because you  were taking everything literally. You know I could never leave you for that long." Beetlejuice's hair turned pink, that's how I knew he was being genuine and embarrassing himself.

I giggled and threw my arms around his neck. He stood with me next to my bed and we just stared in each other's eyes.

"Thank you for coming at this time, though. I-I really missed you, Beej." I looked in his eyes a bit longer.

Beetlejuice, still pink, picked me up again and kissed me. We stayed still with each other and laid on my bed. I fell asleep with the demon's arms wrapped around me. I knew that he loved me more than everything. His lips pressed against the back of my neck, and his arms slightly stroking against my arm comforted me and I slowly forgot about all the day's discomfort.

"Babes, sleep well. It's all better now that I'm here." Beetlejuice whispered in my ear teasingly.

I smiled silly and faded into the blackness.

I hope you liked this first one-shot. Next-time I will make it so that BJ is in the chapter more. I was trying to make the reader understand the plot a little.
