It's funny how life is so fleeting. Life is like your period. One moment you are having the time of your life, laughing your head off, the next, crying your eyes out.

You were doing just that. Your body struggled to breathe, your chest heaving as you dashed past the first responders crowding the area around your house. They hadn't brought anyone out of the house. They shouted at you to come back, but you ran, straight to the front door.

Your hand burned, the smell of burning flesh filling your breath as you flung open the door, clutching the 1000 degree metal doorknob. Jumping through flames, you knew your quirk was utterly useless here. You ran around the whole main floor, narrowly avoiding being crushed by the falling ceiling boards, flaming on their way down to earth.

Eventually, you discovered nothing, hope hissing out of you, unlike the fire, which was only growing. You tore off your tie, wrapping it around your face to breathe without inhaling more smoke. Racing up your house's stairs, you discovered a shivering body, almost completely engulfed in flame. Blankets wrapped around the child's body, trying to protect itself.

"Hisa!!!!" you screamed , your lunges aching of breathlessness and smoke inhalation.
Wrapping your arms around the girl, you carried her in your burned, shaking arms, whispering incoherent comforting words, unsure of whether or not she was hearing you.

When you descended the stairs, you discovered the fire force waiting at the bottom. Your legs fell out from underneath you as you let your sister be taken into the strong arms of a larger male, who immediately ran at the nearest wall, shouldering the blow, protecting the child in his arms.
The worried voices of the men around you, asking you if you were okay were drowned out by your own thoughts, your head pounding as your brain cleared, nothing left in your head.  Black spots danced through your vision as the firefighters guided you out of the fiery furnace, gingerly grabbing your scorched arms.

You allowed yourself to be guided through the crowd to an ambulance, unable to respond to anyone. The instant the man who was holding onto you left go, your body became limp as your eyes rolled to the back of your head, all adrenaline gone, the pain finally knocking you out.

----------------------------------------------

You woke to see your brother sitting to your right, clutching his hands together desperately, his head hanging low. You sit up slowly. His head snapped upwards to turn towards you, his attention directed on you.

"What the h*ll were you thinking?!!?" He yelled, finally awakened from the realm he was just in.

      "W-w... what do you mean?"

"Why the h*ll would you jump into a burning building?!!? Why would you run through walls of fire? Carry someone else out when there were other people whose jobs are to do that? Why the h*ll would you do that?!!?"

  "Wh-wha.."

"Kazume, you could have died. You.. I-i.. I.."

"What do you mean why?!!? Why would I stand there and watch as my sister burns to a crisp? Why would I not go and save her? Why should I-"

"BECAUSE I CAN'T LOSE YOU TOO!!

His voice broke, tears starting to stream down his face as he let his head drop onto the hospital bed, reddish hair mussed.

"I can't lose you too..."

Your heart dropped at one word. One small, three-lettered word.
'I can't lose you too.' Too, meaning someone else...

"No..." you muttered, forgetting the pain stretching down your arms.
"No. No, no, no, no, no, no, NOO!!!!"

"She's not gone. Yet." His voice was muffled by the bedsheets.

"What do you mean?"

He sighed, sitting up, running his left hand through his messy hair.

"She's in a stable condition, but in a coma. Her heartbeat is steady but the burns will never heal properly. It's unlikely she'll ever wake up."

The tiny spark of hope that was left reignited the dwindling flame in your heart.  You finally relaxed, exhaling deeply into a sigh.

"She's okay, then, right?"

"Didn't you hear me? They said she'll never wake up."

"They said 'probably'," you responded. "She will wake up," you say, rubbing his tousled hair.

"She will wake up, Ichiro," you say one last type, as if you were still trying to convince yourself of that too.

With that, you drifted back into the unconscious realm you left a few minutes ago.

She will wake up.

Won't she?
