Great...
I fall on my bed and think of what to do. No one is home , everyone is either at an early Christmas party or have went back home.
So I order in some food because I was craving Chinese like crazy and went downstairs into the living room with the big tv and "FRIENDS". I was on episode 10 of season 4 when I heard the front door opening. Whoever came in , was super quiet and they walked up the stairs. I followed them even more quietly. As I reached the top of the stairs I saw Daniels door open so I creeped up and peeked around the corner. It was Daniel. He was putting a sleepy Justin to bed , as he placed the blanket over him he kissed him goodnight which made my heart skip a beat at this image.
Da- oh..sorry did I wake you?
He turns around and spots me , quietly leaving the room and standing beside me in the corridor.
M- nope , just watching Friends.
Da- again?
He laughs.
M- hey! I love them!
Da- I know you do
We end up looking at each other in silence for a few seconds. It wasn't an awkward silence, it never is with him.
Da- um...could I join?
I don't know what to say. Are we in the position yet ? The last time we watched something together, we ended up fighting and then sleeping together and then I found out about his son.
Da- I promise I won't talk about Justin tonight
He pleads me.
M- okay , lets go.
He smiles and follows me back to the living room. We sit on the couch a few centimetres away from each other , not too close but close enough. I turn the episode back on and we end up binge watching it , that we don't realise how we got to season 7.
Da- wow it's two am.
M- is it?
I grab my phone to check it , when I see a few messages and a few missed calls I realise I haven't been on my phone in hours. I see one particular message from my boss , so I open that one first.
*text message*
Morgan, my friend Francesca loved your designs and has offered you a full time job in Yves Saint Laurent office in Paris. It's a big opportunity and I hope you will think about it. We will discuss this further after the holidays.
*end of message*
I particularly scream when I read the message , I jump up and hug Daniel , who was confused about what was happening.
M- I got a Job offer!
Da- that's great , but don't you have one already?
M- yeah but... is for Saint Laurent in Paris
His faces lights up and this time he jumps up and hugs me , lifting me off the ground and spinning me around - just like old times. We both laugh uncontrollably as we collapse back onto the couch and that's when I notice Daniel's face drown of colour.
M- what's wrong?
Da- n..nothing
M- Daniel!
Da- I said nothing
M- go ahead and ruin a perfect moment
Da- sorry..I .. just .. are you gonna take this up?
His eyes now full of worry like me taking this job is gonna effect him in any way.
M- I...um I don't know , it's too late right now to decide
Da- oh...okay
M- yeah...
For the first time in our friendship and relationship we had an awkward silence even after we broke up it wasn't awkward there was just lots of tension.
Da- you going back home today?
M- no tomorr... oh wait today yeah.
It was technically today since it was after midnight and I have to be up in 5 hours which I haven't realised until Daniel pointed it out.
M- I should head to sleep.
Da- yeah... me too
M- goodnight
Da- goodnight.
I get up and walk past him but as I get to the door , his hand gets a hold of my wrist and turns me around to him.
Da- um...I was wondering if...um you wanted a lift to the airport?
M- oh..it's okay Jonah will give me one
Da- he is gonna have a massive hangover
I slightly laugh , remember our high school graduation. Gabbie and Jonah , Daniel and I and the boys were all flying to Los Angeles for the weekend but Jonah and Daniel decided to stay for week longer. We had this massive party the night before our flight and Jonah got so wasted that he couldn't drive us to the airport instead his friend Logan did.
Da- what?
M- I just remembered the trip we had after our graduation
He smiles.
Da- you remember that?
M- of course... Jonah got soo drunk
His face kinda falls and I remember why... I wouldn't never forget that moment , during that trip Daniel gave me a promise ring , a promise that we will be together no matter what. It was a big moment but I did try to forget all about them after he broke that promise but I never could.
M- oh...
Da- I'm sorry I broke that promise
M- it's...it's okay
Da- no it's not! I wanted to be the one who made you the happiest but my stupid mistake hurt you ... and me in ways I didn't know was possible
M- it's the past now
Da- why can't we be the present?
M- I'm not having this conversation, you made your choice three years ago and that was that
I turn around to leave but his arm stills holds on.
Da- can I still drive you?
M- sure.
It's not like I have much of a choice , he right Jonah will have a bad hangover.
