You never know what life has in store for you. I spent my whole life defending myself from the person I am today. Who knew that only one person could change me...
"You had enough yet?"
"Hell no! Bring it on punk!"
"Well if you insist."
Maru began to giggle as he twirled his scythe. Then he rushed in, putting the Challenger at his knees with one fell swoop.
"Aww! I thought you'd put up more of a fight! Too bad..."
Maru lifts the opponent by his shirt and uses the blunt side of his scythe to knock him out of the arena.
The crowd cheers for Maru. "Maru! There's nothing he can't do! Maru! He'll wipe the floor with you!"
Maru takes a graceful bow. "Thanks! One day I'll be the top assassin!" He raised his fist in the air, which made the crowd cheers even more.Assassin. A word that I looked up to. In my world, almost everybody wants to be an assassin. It's a title that shows you're willing to fight for anything. Me? I fought for happiness. The way the crowd cheers, amused by the show I put on. It makes my heart twinkle with excitement. That praise you get, knowing you've made someone happy. That all would change today, the day I met them...
Maru leaves the field, going into one of the corridors that's used as an exit from the field. It was narrow and dark.
Maru began to think to himself. "So many great assassins have walked through this place. I wish I could feel their energy, knowing what they were fighting for."
A dark figure approached Maru, wearing a dark cloak that hid their face and structure, with only the twinkle of the exit reflecting off their eyes. Maru was too deep in his thoughts to notice the dark figure.
"Great fight out there."
Maru jumped back, almost falling, unable to focus because of the sudden complement. His anxiety kicked in and he didn't know what to say.
"Uhh... Yeah! Thanks!"
As the stranger passed him, they winked at Maru. Maru, who all of a sudden felt flustered, hid his face, blushing, as the stranger made their way through the corridor.End of Ch.1
