Part 15 - Woman’s Intuition
Rose’s POV
Beth was jumping up and down in excitement, waving the small picture around like a crazy person. Justin was sitting upright on the hospital bed, a large grin on his face as he watched his fiancee act like a monkey.
“Oh my gosh! Look at my little guy!” she started saying during her excitement.
I shook my head, “Beth, hun, remember we didn’t find out. It’s too soon to tell, and besides, I want it to be a surprise.”
She stuck her tongue out at me once she stopped bouncing. “Well my instincts tell me that it’s a boy, so there!”
“Your instincts?” Justin asked, one eyebrow raised. Beth giggled like a school girl, and went to perch next to him on the bed.
“Yup, call it my woman’s intuition. That baby,” she said seriously and pointed to me, more specifically my stomach, “is a boy.”
He rolled his eyes and snuggled her close. “Whatever you say darling.”
“Smart man,” she replied. I couldn’t help but chuckle. These two were the epitome of the perfect couple. As happy as I was for them, the green jealousy monster couldn’t resist a bit of spotlight. I wondered if I’d ever get my happily ever after.
* * *
Three and a half weeks later I found myself sitting in the doctor’s office again. This time for my four month check-up. I purposely scheduled it a little early because I knew the store would be crazy within the next few weeks. Our newest line was due out in a few days, and I’d be lucky to have a minute of free time to relax. Beth already assured me that I wouldn’t be allowed on my feet that much, but I knew otherwise. I couldn’t resist being up and moving. Dormancy was never my thing.
Beth couldn’t accompany me this time because Justin was finally able to come home from the rehabilitation center. Beth was ecstatic. She spent the past two days cleaning the apartment, and preparing his return. He is finally able to walk normally without getting winded. Running, well that will take some time, but he is well on the road to normal. I think he is more excited about being able to walk at his wedding. Speaking of the wedding, it’s just about two months away. Beth is so excited. All the plans are complete, except for the cake and her dress. We’re planning on going for the dress next week.
“Rose, Doc’s ready for you,” the receptionist said, breaking me out of my thoughts.
“Okay,” I answered with a smile. Grabbing my purse, I stood up and followed the little hallway to the back.

Beth’s POV
I was so excited. Justin was finally coming home after four months in the hospital. You couldn’t put a level on the amount of joy he was feeling today. They were just running a few more tests before they officially released him, and then he was home free. Just the thought of having him home again gave me the chills. I missed him so much.
Rose had a doctor’s appointment today, but there was a problem at the store that I had to take care of. She insisted that I don’t come with her anyway. It was ‘just a check-up’ she had said. She seemed to be in a much better place lately, so I figured that it was time for her to be on her own for a little bit. I knew how she functioned. This was her moment to shine, her moment to really figure things out. But I kept my phone close, just in case.
I had opened the store about an hour ago, and although traffic was slow, it was steady. I was standing behind the register, flipping through some new designs Rose gave me when I heard the bell ring on the door, signaling the entrance of a customer. I heard Deanna greet them, and next thing I knew there was a man standing in front of me.
“Excuse me ma’am,” the stranger said.
I looked up, a smile on my face. “Hi there. What can I help you with?”
“I’m looking for Rose. I know she works here. I really need to find her,” he said. I took a moment to look him over. He had short brown hair, deep blue eyes, and was in dire need of a shave.
I narrowed my eyes. “Well, I was wondering if you’d ever show up Steven.”
