"Just a simple scream and you cannot do it. This is the hundredth time and you always get it wrong. It should be a mix of terror and fear, of desperation and fight, of hope and inevitability."

Fancy words to describe a scream, but she had failed every time.

Not a hundred times, but definitely enough to make everyone in the recording studio stared at her in exasperation; enough to make her guilty for the numerous retakes. Finally the director threw his arms up in frustration and announced, "A ten minute break and back for the final take; before we give up."

Turning towards her, he wagged his finger, "You better get it right."

Shaking off the humiliation and fighting tears, she stepped out of the studio into the alley, it was dark and close to midnight, but she wanted a few minutes alone. She leaned against the wall near the end of the alley as she blew smoke rings; the cigarette calming her.

She never heard the faint footsteps that echoed and when she felt the cold steel against her neck, it was too late.

Her scream would have made the director proud, if only someone had recorded it.
