🎃 Night 🎃

The sound is like an incessant hum, a faint protest of the wind as it whistles through the trees. And then, it wails a little louder, as though warning the trespassers, 'this is my land, my hour, be wary as you step through, little traveller.'

In the distance, there is the constant chirping of the crickets, a mating call yet raises your hackles. It is cold and yet a bead of sweat trickles down, the wisps of cold air trail like wraiths and your imagination awakens. You watch from your window, wondering who would be out in a night like this, wondering what foolishness drove them to step out into the dark.

A cawing...crows? At this time of the night? I always thought crows are diurnal, but then maybe we humans have so encroached on them that they have sought refuge in the night.
