Adam squeezes his eyes and opened them again, adjusting to the intense light. Where was he? He wasn't in the restaurant anymore. Wait.. Where's James!! He struggled to move. He tried turning his head, but pain shot through him.
"Adam!" He heard a voice call. James face appeared in front of him.
"J-James!" Adam called. He felt something click then his neck shot up. He lifted one arm too hug James. James wrapped his arms around him too. Tears soaked James shirt. The embrace ended too soon.
"Doctors. Get the doctors." Adam said. James nodded his head and sloppily rushed to the door and yelled down the hall.
"Doctor Ryms! Get in here now!" James called down the hall at the doctor already walking to the door for a check up. James ran back to Adams side.
"Adam!" James yelled. We wrapped around him, trapping him into his embrace. He sobbed into his shoulder when the doctor ran in along with three other nurses. Doctor Ryms stood, astonished. He moved to Adams side and sort of slightly pushed James out of his way.
"Hey Adam. How are you feeling." Two if the nurses shuffled out of the room, one stayed and changed the IV.
"I- I'm good." Adam stuttered. He sloppily raised a hand to his face. He felt his eye, his nail frazzled against the rough skin around it. "What happened." Adam asked.
"Adam... you were shot. Two weeks ago you were waiting for me in a restaurant. I don't know what exactly happened, when I came in the restaurant.. you were beat up. The guy said he'd let us all go if he didn't shoot you in the head with a blind shot, and thankfully he just hit your forearm." Tears ran down James face, some happy some sad. The memories came rushing back and he relived the moment in his mind.
"N-no. That's not what happen- end." Adam groaned and reached to his forearm and rubbed the entrance of the bullet.
"What do you remember Adam?" Doctor Ryms asked. James wanted to shake his head in disagreement, but decided not too considering he wasn't the doctor. Or was he?
"Well. I was w-waiting for James in moxie-xies. And then he came and I.. i pro- prop- proposed. He came to jump in my- my arms. And then I heard a b- bang and Ja-James' head was-." Adam was cut off by tears. "His head was g-gone." Adam sobbed into his one arm and the other rested to his side, the same position he was asleep in. James noticed this and represented a gesture to give Adam a hug. But only his one arm moved to hug him as Adam sobbed into his shoulder. He glanced over to the doctor who had observed the same. They looked at each other determined.
"Adam. Can you move your arm for me." The doctor insisted. Adam detached himself from James and wiped his eyes. Adam looked down to his other hand.
"Y-yeah. One-ne sec'" Adams fingers wiggled and soon his wrist.
"Can you raise it for me. Maybe grab my pen." Doctor Ryms held out a pen. Adam nodded and tried lifting his arm. It didn't budge. He died again, using aggression this time. James grabbed Adams arm and brought it to the pen, Adam grabbed it no problem.
"Order a ct scan and get me a blood sample pronto." The doctor whisper-yelled to the nurse. She nodded and the doctor exited the room.
————————————————————————
Adam couldn't remember much. It was all a blur. His mind got fuzzy and then the beds back falling flat. The stead "skirt" and scream of the wheels on the floor. He felt exhausted. James, the angel, whispering into his ear as he ran beside the doctors. He had entered a cold room. He couldn't remember any specifics except the bright light above him and the sound of the doctors screaming. And water taps turning on and off. The flickering of the plastic near his ear. A mask invaded his face and rested comfortably over his mouth and nose. He began breathing in the sweeter, warmer air. He had felt... calm, collected. But panicked at the same time. Doctors hovered over but and then he remembered an alarm, bursting about the room. Adam, of course, was almost fully asleep by now. The fact that the gas was pulsing through is lungs and trachea was enough to make him want to push back to full consciousness, but the influence was too strong to resist. He fell into complete slumber.

James on the other hand, he just happened to be very, very unlucky.  He began arguing with the doctors
"I was only there for a few years. Still like 10 away from a surgical career!" He argued as Doctor Ryms dragged him into a scrub room.
"You were still there. Every inch of this building is on lock down and me and you are the only ones who have surgical experience here at the moment." The doctor handed James a sponge. 'Nylon surgical sponge' it read.
"No, no way!" James shouted.
"It's either you help me and we save your almost fiancés life, or I can go in there alone and try doing the work of four hands with two and kill him. You decide, but Adam won't wait." James looked down at the sponge and back up at the doctor. He took his place at the sink and began scrubbing.
"This is ludacrise." James mumbled as he swatched the sponge up his arm and around his fingers. The doctor smiled at him and entered the sterol field, accompanied by gloves and a gown that the surgical nurse supplied him with, James followed suit. James felt absolutely terrified. He spends two years in medical school, drops out and animates for four years and now he's standing in a operating room? Something didn't quite add up. But he sucked it up, grabbed a scalpel, and made the insition.
"About a inch more." Doctor Ryms instructed, while sucking up the blood expelling from the arm. James continued gliding his fingers long the arm with the scalpel. "Perfect, first we're going to clamp the arteries and then ouch the tissue out of the way to make it to the bone and then, we start detaching the arm and harvesting the nerve." The doctor once again instructed.
"Code blue. Code blue. Armed suspect is believed to be on the 2nd floor, near OR 1." An announcement sounded   from the overhead speakers. James slightly winced.
"It's ok, we're on the 6th floor, OR 8, and all the doors are locked. We're fine. Just stay focused on the nerves and arteries while I prepare the prosthetic." James nodded. The doctor eased him into the surgery, showing him the proper way to clamp arteries, and Alice through tissue until he made it to the bone.
"D-doctor Ryms. I'm th-there." The doctor rushed to James aid and instructed for a bone saw.
"Ok, James this is your time to shine. You cannot screw this up or Adam dies ok?." James nodded as he anxiously waddled in place, fiddling on and off the bone saw.
"B-but what if-" The doctor cut him off.
"No 'but what if's ok? Look at the face of the man you love." James eyes flickered to Adam, calm and rested. "Now think of that face 10 years from now. And then saw the bone." James began, he turned the saw into low and made a small cut in the bone and checked Adams pulse and blood pressure. He continued pressing down. His lungs screamed for air but he couldn't allow any to enter. Not under this pressure. James felt the sad jerk. He ripped it out of the arm and almost threw it in the side table.
"It's- it's done. I did-did it. Wha-what now ry-yms." The doctor walked over with a small prosthetic tube.
"Now you do the same for the shoulder. But this time, I'll be here to help." Ryms grabbed the scalpel and continued the insition all the way to the top of the arm, starting of shoulder. James shuddered as he glanced at the face of his beloved again. He began to tear up but wiped them away, and focused on suction. The insition was finished and both men looked up at the monitor to check pulse and blood pressure. To their relief, everything was fine. James began digging around and clapping arteries, then slicing the tissue and then.. the bone, it was bigger and looked like it would take longer then the other. He was already taking on so much pressure, he couldn't do this. He grabbed the bone saw and pushed it out of his hands and into the more experienced man.
"I- I can't. Not again." James Hugs himself. He nearly passed out from shortage of oxygen the first time, he didn't want to see what would happen the second. Doctor Ryms understood and sawed through the bone. The satisfactory jerk of the bone saw game and Ryms tore it out. James just watched in astonishment.
"Ok James. Now we need to harvest as many nerves as we can. Ok? So what your going to do is dig around in the tissue and when you see a nerve you pull it out, make sure it stays fully attached to the top of the arm or the nerve cannot be harvested.
"O-ok. What do YeH n-n-nerves look like?"
"Code blue is over. Police have caught the armed suspect and he has been prosecuted." The speakers sounded. Two other doctors came bursting through the doors and scrubbed in half the time Ryms and James did. They ran in and went to go take James place. But James didn't budge. He was too focused. He's stated through the microscopes sitting on non prescription glasses that rested on his face - the glasses supplied by the nurse to ensure complete accuracy-. The two other doctors watched in astonishment as James followed a nerve to the hand, snipped it, then set it to the side with the other cords of nerves. They were very thin, thinner than paper. He continued, 2 nerves, 3, 4, 5. In half an hours time he harvested nearly all the nerves in his half of the arm. One more James thought. One more then the prosthetic, then I'm done. James clipped the nerve and slowly pulled it out of the arm, setting it to the side, obviously still attached to the top. Doctor Ryms watched in complete envy, removing nerves and dissecting and entire arm on his first surgery. He was gonna be a prodigy. Ryms dipped the last nerve out and then the other doctors moved Adam away from him, and the prosthetic closed.
"James thank you. But you should let doctor Taylor and doctor Reese take over now. You've done your pets nd your welcome to sleep in Adams hospital bed if you need until we bring him back in. James shook in fear and nodded. Only then, as he exited the hospital room, did he realize. He'd just done his first surgery, let alone a super complex and complicated surgery for even a resident, and it was on his almost fiancé. He smiled but shuddered as he exited and ripped the gown and gloves off, making his way to Adams hospital bed. He laid and fell to sleep. Feeling crazy for enjoying that rush.
