Heaven knows - chapter eleven

Dans P.O.V

I heard a knock at the door so Caitlin jumped up from the couch and answered the door and I heard her say, "Hi Phil, I'll get Dan" I rubbed my face with my hands and groaned as she pulled me off of the couch and to the front door,

In the doorway stood phil. He was wearing a nice dark suit with a quirky purple tie hanging out. His hair was perfectly shaped and he had his cute smile on his lips.

"Hey Dan" hearing his voice made me remember everything we did and I started to cry, I knew I shouldn't so I stopped and made myself look tough, hopefully it was working.

"What do you want phil!" I shouted a bit to sternly and he saw me grab the door.

He took in a deep breath and started to explain why he was here.

"I came to apologise. I want you to listen to every word without cutting me off because you need to hear the full story.

I want you to understand that I was forced to do what I did with zoe all those years ago and in no way, shape or form did I want to do what I did.

What I never got to tell you was that She held me at knife point and said she wanted my happiness. and my happiness is you Dan.

She told me to do those things because that would make you hate me and as a result, my happiness would be taken away and it was.

I don't want Maddi or anyone else. You are the one that I want, that I need, and what I love.

I don't think I have gone a single day without wishing you were by my side and whenever I think of you I break down, knowing I will never be completely happy unless I'm with you.

I love you Dan" I started to cry when he said that he still loves me and he started to cry too.

I coughed and stopped crying because I remembered I was trying to be angry and trying to forget all the fun time I had with phil.

"Why now phil? I-I love Caitlin and you know we are together so please, just leave!." I slammed the door and turned around to see Caitlin there crying.

"I know we are together but I honestly think you should go after Phil! He is the best thing that has ever happened to you and you know it! I know we like eachother but we both know phil needs you more than I do.

I want you to be with phil, if you're happy, I'm happy and to be honest I wish Maddi would do what phil did for you but she wasn't special, phil is.

You know you need him and so do I. I love you Dan but phil loves you more" she stopped crying and I have her a hug.

"T-thank you, for everything Caitlin" I stuttered and kissed her forehead. I gave her line last hug before running out the door, not caring that I looked like a slob.

She was right, even though I love her, I have always loved phil more and she knew it too. We were leaning on eachother for support and I hope I can help her find her happiness.

If I knew phil well enough, and I think I do. Whenever he was upset he would go to his favourite place. Our place.

It was this cliff the was completely covered by trees except for one little area near the edge.

I ran to the base of the cliff and with the help of the moon, I could see a figure standing in the clearing and Phil's car was parked next the where I was standing.

I pushed through the tresses and plants and I saw phil standing at the edge, looking down at the water below.

Phil must have heard me and turned around. He looked so sad and so broken and I probably did too I coulnt find the right words to say.

But the one thing I managed to say was,

"I-I love you too"
