Reader POV
I was woken up late the next morning to my doorbell ringing. I groaned and stretched in bed before getting up, rubbing the last bits of sleep from my eyes so I could actually see properly. I wasn't expecting anyone over today so who was at the door? My clothes weren't exactly appropriate for greeting someone at the front door so I grabbed a pair of sweat pants and slipped them on then headed downstairs to open up the door. "Levi? What're you doing here?" I asked with surprise, stepping aside and opening the door more for him so he could come inside. I certainly wasn't expecting this. And I wasn't even dressed in nice clothes... Well, to be fair he'd seen me in much less already so I suppose it didn't matter.
"Sorry, did you just wake up? I had the day off so I thought I'd come by. Maybe take you out to lunch or something." He sounded a little nervous. Was it even possible for Levi to be nervous about stuff like this? I mean, I guess everyone has something that makes them nervous. And I often got nervous around people I had feelings for too so I shouldn't judge. "Oh, well, yeah. But it's okay. If you give me a few minutes I can be ready to go if you want to go for lunch."
I let him into the house when he agreed to that and hurried off to my room to get changed into something appropriate for going out. I decided on a pair of plain denim skinny jeans and a cream chiffon shirt that was loose fitting before putting on a pair of black flats. I quickly brushed my hair and put it up into a pony tail and brushed my teeth in the bathroom mirror then went to meet him back at the living room where he'd sat down on the couch to wait patiently for me. "I'm all set. Did you have a specific place in mind for lunch?" I asked Levi curiously as he stood stiffly, leading the way to the front door and out onto the porch. I locked the door behind us and smiled at him in anticipation of his response. I didnt really care if he had a plan or not, just his surprise visit to take me out on a date was a sweet gesture.
Levi hummed in thought and slipped his hand into mine as we went down the sidewalk past his car and continued on down the street. "You just woke up so how about a cafe nearby? And then we could go shopping or something if you want. I... I didnt actually have a plan before I showed up." He admitted with an awkward huff of a laugh. I leaned over and placed a kiss on his cheek as we walked, taking note of the way the tips of his ears turned slightly pink. "That sounds lovely. Certainly more fun than what I planned on doing today." He raised an eyebrow at me and gave me a side glance that I smiled at in return. "And what plans did you have today?" I shrugged my shoulders and shifted closer to him, resting my free hand on his bicep lightly. "Oh, just sleeping and watching TV, probably eating more junk food that I shouldn't be eating. Spending time with you out of the blue like this is much nicer though. And I'll get free coffee." I teased with a happy giggle that he rolled his eyes at.
Levi pulled his arm from my grasp and instead wrapped it firmly around my waist, gently pulling me closer to him as we walked slowly to the cafe I normally stopped at on my way to work when I had it. "Are you trying to extort things from a police officer, miss (L/N)?" I could hear the teasing tone as he held back a laugh at his own taunt and I tried my best to not laugh at him, lightly nudging his side with my elbow. "Maybe I am. You certainly seem willing... Officer Ackerman." I couldn't stop the laugh from escaping that time and his gruff chuckle joined me. We held idle chatter for the next few minutes of our walk until we reached the cafe. "You find a seat, I'll get us some coffee and something to eat." Levi said as he pulled his arm back to himself to open the door for me. "Sure thing, Officer." I teased lightly and he shook his head in amusement, watching me walk over to an empty table for two near the windows before he went to stand in the short line.
Levi POV
I ordered myself plain black coffee and a caramel cappuccino for (Name) along with two turkey club sandwiches when it was my turn and brought the tray with our food and drinks over to the small table. "One caramel cappuccino and a turkey club for the lovely lady." I took the cup of coffee off the try and set it in front of her, followed by the paper plate with the sandwich on it then took my own items off the tray to place them in front of the empty seat. "I'm gonna go put the tray back." I trailed off as I saw her happy smile before she got right to eating her sandwich. God she was beautiful when she smiled like that...
I quickly put the tray back and returned to my seat to join her in eating our rather unorthodox lunch. It wasn't exactly what I'd had in mind for a lunch date, eating sandwiches and drinking coffee at a cafe near her house, but I wasnt going to complain as long as I got to spend time with (Name) and got to see her smile more. The silence while we ate was comfortable and as I watched her slowly drink her coffee while staring out the window at the people walking by, I found myself thinking about how I never wanted this to end. I wanted to spend every day with her. I wanted to wake up to see her face every morning and kiss her goodnight every night. I wanted this woman to be in my life forever. I wanted to marry her...
The rest of the date passed by in a haze after that thought crossed my mind. It was all I could think about and when we parted and I went home, I couldn't help but let my mind wander farther than just marriage. I imagined what it would be like to live with her, if we would have kids and what they might look like. If we would get a pet for those kids, would it be a cat or a dog? And as I went to try and sleep that night, laying in my bed staring at the ceiling, I couldn't help but smile at those thoughts in mild amusement with myself. I'd really fallen hard for the girl I'd had a silly crush on back in high school. We were dating now and I could confidently say that I was falling in love with her all over again. It was a comforting warm feeling that left my heart fluttering when images of her face crossed my mind. Needless to say, my dreams that night were very sweet and involved nothing but the purest and happiest of scenarios involving my girlfriend.
