Chapter 4!
The Great Escape
____________________Kamri woke up early for the first time in a long time and the sun, her alarm nor Layla woke her up. She woke up on her own accord, or more specifically, her own excitement.
She tried her best to hide it but it was obvious she was excited. When she had finished getting ready and ran downstairs to meet Layla and Graham, even her mother noticed how excited she was.
"What's got you so excited huh?" Julie asked.
Kamri blushed slightly, "W-what, I'm just excited to hang out with Graham and Layla of course."
"And Dylan." Julie said with a smirk.
Kamri rolled her eyes mockingly causing her mother to laugh, "Okay okay, I get it. I'm being embarrassing. Have fun with your friends, I'll go up to my room now."
"Bye mom, love you." Kamri said and smiled at her mother.
Julie smiled back, "Love you too. You look beautiful by the way." She said and winked at her daughter as she walked up towards her room.
Kamri rolled her eyes once more even though she knew her mother was just teasing her.
It took ten minutes for Graham, Dylan and Layla to arrive at Kamri's house. Cindy Verchere pulled up in her minivan, Graham's twin brother Toby sitting in the front, Layla and Graham in the middle and Dylan sitting alone in the back of the van.
Kamri got into the van and sat next to Dylan, the two of them sat in silence on their way to the escape room. Though they would occasionally pipe into Graham and Layla's conversation or reply to questions Cindy was asking them.
It took the six of them about 20 minutes to reach the escape room.
"Here we are." Cindy said as she stopped the car.
"Thanks mom." Graham said while exiting the van.
"Thanks Cindy." Layla, Kamri and Dylan said one after the other, as they left.
The four teens then entered the escape room and went straight to reception. Graham had already booked a room so the receptionist took them to the waiting room so that they could send someone to reset the room.
"Are you guys excited?" Layla asked once the four of them had sat down.
"I've never really done an escape room before but I've heard they're fun!" Kamri replied with a huge smile on her face.
It didn't take long before the receptionist returned and told the teens that the room was ready, he went over how the rooms worked and all the fire escapes and then lead the four of them into the room.
"Alright so all we have to do is find the clues and get out of here in 1 hour." Kamri said after the receptionist left. She knew Layla had a short attention span and could rarely pay attention to long talks, so Kamri said that for Layla's benefit.
"But how do we know when we've completed the room?" Graham asked.
"Jesus, were any of you actually listening?" Kamri asked slightly annoyed. The other three teens shook their heads.
"I got lost when he was explaining how to find the clues." Graham said causing Layla and Dylan to laugh.
Kamri rolled her eyes trying to hide a smile, "We've completed the room when that light up there-" She said and pointed to the light above the door. "-goes green. Then the door will unlock and we can leave the room."
"And what if we can't find any clues?" Layla asked and this time Kamri let out her laugh.
"You guys really weren't listening huh?" The three of them nodded and Kamri continued. "If we're having trouble finding clues we use this walkie talkie-" She held up the walkie. "-and they'll try and help us, but we can only use this 5 times. After that we have to figure it out ourselves."
"Alright, I think we've got it now." Dylan said and looked at Graham and Layla and they nodded. "We've been talking about this for two minutes so we better start looking."
The four of them nodded in agreement and began looking for clues. Graham and Layla looked for clues together while Kamri and Dylan looked by themselves.
After looking for 10 minutes, Kamri finally found a clue.
"Guys! I found something." She said and the other three teens ran over to her.
"What is it?" Layla asked.
"It's a key." Kamri replied and then looked around the room trying to find a lock that the key would fit in.
The group then took turns trying the key in every lock they could find.
"How the hell does this key not fit in any lock here?!" Kamri asked starting to become annoyed after the group tried every lock in the room.
"I don't fucking know!" Layla said raising her voice, both girls were now super agitated.
"Look, there must be a hidden lock in here somewhere." Dylan said.
Kamri turned to him, "What's the point in hiding a lock?!"
"I don't know! Maybe you just didn't look hard enough?" Dylan replied, he was now becoming agitated too.
"I didn't look hard enough? I wasn't the only one looking for locks." Kamri was now getting dangerously close to Dylan and she was seriously considering slapping him but she contained herself.
The two suddenly stopped arguing once they realised how close they were to each other. Kamri's eyes widened as she watched Dylan lean in and give her a quick peck on the lips.
She didn't have enough time to react or kiss back.
"Uh, sorry." Dylan said after kissing her, Kamri was at a loss for words. She just turned away from him and began looking for more clues.
The two teens didn't talk to each other until they had left the escape room.
"About that kiss-" Dylan said but he was cut off by Kamri.
"It was just in the heat of the moment. I'm sure it was nothing, right?" Kamri replied and as she watched Dylan walk off she heard him mumble, "Right, nothing."
