"Are you sure about this?"

"For like tenth time, yes."  She sighed.

"I just-" I started, but she interrupted me.

"Veronica, relax. I know you don't want this, and believe me, me neither." She told me, with a sad but serious tone in her soft voice.

That voice I once fell in love with. The voice that always made me feel safe and happy. But right now, it didn't made me happy at all.

"But this is the right thing to do, and you know it too, right?"

I didn't answer, because I didn't agree with her. At least I didn't want to. I just kept my gaze on the road.

In a corner of my eye I saw that she was looking at me. I just wanted to close my eyes, to not see her beautiful blue eyes turned so sad and tired. But I had to keep driving.

We just sat in a silence, both looking at the road.

This silence, that had always felt so natural and comforting. But now, it was just awkward and uncomfortable.

I felt the first tear rolling down my cheek. Oh no, there it was. The sadness and fear, that I had tried to bury somewhere for so long. Now it took completely over me.

I pressed my had around the gear shift as tightly as I could. I saw my knuckles turning white. Then, there was another hand. It was placed over mine, and gave it to a little squeeze.

I gratefully accept her attempt to comfort me, and took her hand into mine, interweaving our fingers.

"We're here." My voice was raspy from trying to fight the tears in my eyes. She didn't see it necessary to answer anything.

I parked the car on a huge parking lot. Quickly I got out and opened the the trunk, to take her gray suitcase out. It wasn't big, she didn't have so much stuff to take with her.

I walked to the other side of the car, and opened the door. She didn't move, she just sat still in her seat.

"Let's go." I told her, my voice colder than I meant to.

"Veronica..." She started. "We're not in a hurry." Her voice was soft and quiet. Her eyes searched for mine, but I kept my gaze away.

"Let's just get this over with." I muttered, and started to walk towards the big building with her suitcase. She followed me behind.

"Hey, wait."

She reached me and I turned around to face her. She didn't say anything, but she offered me her hand. I interweaved our fingers again, and looked into her eyes, showing her a little, sad smile.

I have no idea, what happened next. I just walked next to her, wherever she went and whatever she did. All I was able to do, was hold her hand, never wanting to let go.

I woke up from my thoughts, when she suddenly stopped, and turned to face me. I looked around, to find out what was happening now.

We were on the gate. She stopped to say goodbye.

I felt my chest ache, and stared at the floor, unable to meet her eyes. I swallowed hard, and opened my mouth.

"I'll ask this for the last time now," I started. "Are you sure about this?" I raised my head to look at her.

She smiled sadly as our eyes met.

"Yes, I am."

"Why?"

I saw pain in her beautiful ocean eyes.

"You know why, Veronica." She said quietly. "This isn't working. We aren't working."
