"Mom, I know. You don't have to worry. I'm on my way." I tried to reassure my heated mother through the phone.
"Are you walking? Why didn't Archie drive you home?"
"He's busy. And the weather is quite nice, I don't mind a little walk."
"But alone? You never know what kind of weirdos hide in these forests."
"Mom." I told her with a sigh. "It's like eight in the morning. There's literally no one in here."
"Fine." She sounded annoyed. "Walk then. But hurry up, or you won't see Archie or any other friends for a very long time!"
"Okay okay." I muttered, shut the phone and put it back into the pocket of my jacket.
I tried to warm up my hands by rubbing them together. It was already September, and the air was freezing, at least this early in the morning.
I stopped for a moment to catch my breath again. A few little birds flew over me, singing in the air.
I really loved forests, especially this one. There was a small path going through the woods, and usually I didn't see anyone in here.
But this time was different.
After a few minutes of walking, I saw something big laying on the side of the path. I walked closer, to find out it was young girl, maybe around my age. She was only wearing a short black skirt and a t-shirt, even though it was freezing outside.
"Oh fuck." I muttered to myself and quickly got on my knees beside her. I placed two of my fingers against her neck, and fortunately I was able to feel her heart beats against the skin of my fingers.
Thank god, she's still alive.
Carefully I placed my hands on her shoulders and shook her. It took a while, but eventually she started whining a bit.
"Hey, wake up. Can you hear me?" I asked the girl, my voice shaking.
Slowly she opened her eyes. The dark brown met my green, and she observed my face above her lazily.
"Hi, cutie." She said with a raspy, lazy voice.
"Uh, hi." I told her awkwardly. "How are you feeling? Does it hurt somewhere?"
"No, I don't think so."
"Good. Can you get up?"
She just nodded and made a little movement to get up, but didn't seem to have enough power.
"Here." I reached out my hand.
"Thanks." She gave me a weak smile.
She took my hand on hers, and slowly got up to a sitting position.
"Are you sure you're okay? I can call an ambulance for you." I asked her worriedly.
"No, I'm fine. Just cold, I guess I didn't plan to sleep outside while picking these clothes." She said with a grin.
"Oh, take this. You're probably freezing." I told her, took off my jacket and offered it to her.
"Thanks, babe. You're such a gentlewoman." She said with a smirk.
I felt my cheeks heat up and turned my face towards the ground. "So, um-, how did you end up in here?"
"No idea." She smiled and shook her head. Her almost black hair fell on her face for the sudden movement, but she put it back behind her ears.
"I mean, I was in a party with my friends last night, and I guess I was trying to go home but it clearly didn't go as planned."
