Before There Was You

13. Trip To Paris

The school hall is filled with every senior student.

We're sitting on chairs and everyone is having little conversations with their friends.

"Alright Seniors" Mr. brooks voice echoes throughout the Hall and we all keep quiet.

"as we all know tomorrow is the farewell trip to Paris" he says and we cheer.

"I want you guys to be here by 7am tomorrow. Anyone who will be late, shall be left behind" he takes a look at all of us "you all need to take care of yourselves, do not drink and no sex. If anyone of you fails to comply with these rules, then you shall be suspended and you will not graduate."

A few students murmur in the background then they keep quiet when Mr. Brooks continues.

"Tomorrow will be a long flight and you all need to start packing, so I'm giving you half day, you can go home and remember, be here by 7am sharp."

We all cheer at his statement.

"see you tomorrow" he says then walks out the hall.

Loud noise echoes in the hall when Mr. Brooks leaves. We're all excited and some are already planning their outfits.

"OMG I can't believe it's already here" Stacey shouts as she hold my hands and jumps up and down.

I laugh, then join her.

"I can't wait" I say with excitement.

Tomorrow is the day. It's the day I tell Chris about my feelings.

I have no idea how he will respond to this, but I hope I won't be disappointed.

"let me go talk to Chris" I say to Stacey, then she nods.

I walk towards Chris who doesn't look as excited as everyone else.

"hey, you okay?" I ask.

'Yeah I'm good, I just wish I was going tomorrow" he replies.

My world shatters and a feeling of despondency fills the air.

"uhm why not?" I murmur.

"well it's short notice and I didn't really inform my parents about it, my dad won't be home for a week so I need to be with my mom."

"and you can't leave her alone" I say with a low voice, then I give him a disappointed smile.

"yeah, I hope you enjoy though" he places his hand on my cheek then he glares at me as his eyes pierce my soul.

I smile at his small gesture and reply "thank you".

He removes his hand then gives me a genuine smile "do you need a ride home?" he asks.

"I think I'll just go with Stacey, we'll be packing together" I reply.

"okay I guess I'll see you when you come back?"

I nod "yeah sure."

He glares into my eyes for the last time then gives me a kiss on the cheek, I smile.

He walks away as I look at him and yearn for him.

Well Chris is not coming along and I will be a third wheel for the rest of the trip.

I have to say that I'm disappointed and my plans have been ruined, but I understand his reason for not coming along.

"you guys are super cute ahg" Staceys voice snaps me back to reality.

"yah well, he's not coming to Paris" I say with disappointment.

"oh no Cathy, I'm so sorry" she frowns "but you have me right" she says then tries to cheer me up.

"yeah I do" I reply as I put my arm around her waist and we leave the hall.

We walk to her car then slide inside and drive away.

"Cathy!!!"

My dad's voice echoes in my head while I'm in deep sleep. I can hear his footsteps in my room.

I take a pillow then I cover my ears and whimper.

"Dad no!! stop! I'm sleeping" I groan.

"so I take it you don't want to go to Paris?" he asks.

"aahhhhh" I groan then push the blankets away "what time is it even?" I ask him.

"5:30 am, I know you take forever to get ready so that's why I'm waking you up early".

I moan as I get out of bed then I rub my eyes with the back of my hand.

"thanks, morning" I kiss him on the cheek then he leaves the room.

I get ready then head downstairs.

"morning sweetie" my mum greets me as she gives me a kiss on my forehead "so this is your lunchbox, I made pancakes for you to eat on the road"

"thanks mum" I smile then put the lunchbox in my food-bag.

I take one last look at the house then I close the door.

my parents are already waiting for me in the driveway, then I slide inside the car.

We drive to school and my parents are on about how proud they are that I'm almost done with high school.

"look at you all grown up, you're graduating next week!" they say with excitement.

"yeah yeah" I wave them off jokingly.

"you know we're going on a business trip as well right? So when you come back you might not find us"

"How long will you guys be gone for?" I ask.

"Just a week, we're leaving tomorrow" my dad answers.

We arrive at the parking lot and buses are already waiting for us.

I get off the car then my dad helps me take out my bags while my mom snaps us pictures.

Once we're done, we all take a selfie then we ask one of the students to take us a full picture.

"I love you guys" I say as I hug both of them.

My mum places her hand on my cheek then she stares at me, as if she's reading my face so that she will never forget it.

"mum come on, it's only a week" I say.

She then gives me a firm hug, I hug her back and I feel right at home.

"come here you" my dad says while pulling me to his arms and we give each other a firm hug.

"we love you" they both say.

I smile then wave as I get to the bus and they drive off.

"CATHY CATHY" Stacey shouts while lifting her hand for me to notice where she's sitting.

"hey!!" I laugh and smile when I see her, then I jump and land on the seat next to her.

"this is going to be AWESOME"she says with exhilaration.
